WOW, just three more working days until retirement. My wife is nearly as excited as I am.

I am training a lady to take my place. We worked together at my old plant for nearly twenty years. She is a very competent supervisor but is amazed at how much we are expected to do. She has retired once or twice before but is back as a 'temp' for various reasons.

I have slept more than seven hours a night since giving notice. Before then I would sleep only three or four hours and take an hour nap before leaving for work. It is amazing what a lessened stress level will do for you.

Wishing all fellow TBN's could experience the feeling of relief and expectation that I am feeling. Can't wait to start the rest of my life.

Life without stress is the way to go. Making the decision to retire was stressful for you, I know. Once you have made the move it just keeps getting better. You'll end up wondering why you had so much angst over making the decision in the first place and wish you'd done it sooner.

I closed my restaurant a year ago. Was working 60-70+ hrs a week- six days a week. Like you the sleep got much better after I got off the treadmill. After a little R&R I found a job as a chef at a regional hospital. About 35 hrs a week, and it feels like a part-time job with very little stress, but, I'm pulling the pin in April and looking forward to my growing list of stuff I want to get done around here that I never had the time to get to.

An old mariners wish to you RSKY:

May you have fair winds and following seas.

My wife and I retired together 8 years ago, we worked for the same employer. About a year after retirement she decided to go back to work half time, then three-quarter time, to give her something to do.

I joke to people that she went back to work to get away from me and I do think that was part of the reason.

You may be correct, but I also think retirement is as much about being mentally ready as it is being financially ready. Your wife may not have been ready. However, my wife has friends whose retired husbands are "underfoot" way too much. She was determined that wasn't going to happen. She encouraged me to put a furnace in my garage/workshop and had a list of projects (mostly gardening and landscaping) prepared for me.

Eight months later, I think we have settled into our own routines. We do spend more time together and even do some shopping together. We both are having a wonderful time. I think the planning for this different life really helped.

Glad that is working out for you, I was very active at my former job, always moving around and when I got home I had to take care of the place we have. Her job was in IT and she was usually worn out upon getting home. After retiring I am able to keep busy year around as we have several outbuildings and vehicles and a huge house. She basically needs a reason to get up in the morning or she will get little done. I applaud her choice to return to work as it keeps her more active. I do the majority of housework and meal preparation here which seems fair to me, since she is working almost full time.

Yep, I'm getting my head together too. Need to make a ton of adjustments too.

And remember when I do retire all ya'll can quit reading these retirement posts.

I just pulled the plug February 1 of this year after 41 years working at the same job. I am starting to get used to this after a month of being off. The wife tries to stay out of my because she knows I am going through an adjustment. It is great to be relieved of all the stress of your job. Now the only person I have to answer to is myself..... And the wife....... You'll love it..................
