Hey Guys. About a year ago I was looking for a large capacity quality drop seeder/spreader that could be used with a garden tractor. As most of you know in this day and age quality garden tractor implements are hard to find. As I was searching the web I came cross the Garber Seeder Co and long and behold they had exactly what I was looking for. They offered 36" 48" 60" & 72" drop spreaders that are perfect for garden and sub-compact tractors. They even offered the drop spreader in a three point model.
I was thrilled until I saw the price. The 60" three point model which I though would be perfect was about $1000.00. I really couldn't justify spending that so I moved on.
Well about about 6 months later I went to a local estate sale around the corner from my place, walked into the barn and there was sitting a 60" Garber pull behind spreader. Now i have gone to dozens and dozens of tractor, estate, farm auctions etc etc and have never ran across a garden tractor spreader like the Garbers. So needless to say I was thrilled. It was an older version ( I am going to guess somewhere in the 1970's) for its age it was in very good condition. The daughter of the late owner said she wanted $65.00. No haggling here, I quickly paid her and when I got it home and did some research and realized that the unit I purchased was exactly the same as the newer ones.
I really wanted a three point unit so I started to design my own at which point I decided to call Garber and ask them if they parted out the three point system that they offered with their newer models. The guy on the phone confirmed that my older unit was exactly the same as the new ones and told me that for $150.00 he would sell me the complete three point set up that just bolted to my seeder. All I need to do was drill 4 holes.
Well I completed the set up yesterday and tried out the spreader. It works flawlessly! I was able to get into all the tight spots and the spreader metered out perfectly.
I attached a few photos. I plan on sand blasting the unit and paint it JD green ( which is the color the newer spreaders come in). This is the Garber link. http://garberseeder.com/spreaders.html
