I made a three point attachment for my 1100D and instead of solid arms from the control arms to the lower arms on the three point, I am using chains....why? Because my concern is that I might break one of my control arm if I used a solid link from them to the lower arms. The only thing I use my three point for is a small back blade. The way it is set up now, I relie on the weight of the back blade to do the work. I would rather use the weight of the tractor and I see that if I install solid links from the control arms to the lower arms, I would be using the weight of the tractor to hold the blade in position.

My question......

Anyone see any real risk in breaking my control arms or otherwise doing any damage if I use solid links.....I know most tractor three points are made this way....but the 1100D is a small rig.....and I just hate breaking parts when I don't have too.......

Thanks for any input..

Cootbruce,

I believe the real risk with lift arms are lifting heavy implements (especially on a bouncy terrain) and sharp turns with ground engaged equipment. As far as a dead-pull they seem to be extremely hardy.

The real secret, which is no secret at all, is to engineer the attachment points to be weaker that the lift arms. If damage happens during use, the parts affected are anywhere but the lift arms.

A rear blade, fully lifted, compared to a bush hog or box blade is fairly light.

Regards, Mark

On all 3pt lift tractors (that I have seen) the lift arms will lift and inplement but will allow the implement to float upwards. So only the weight of the inplement is used. If downward force were applied by the lift arms when the implement was forced to rise (bump or rock ) it would lift the drive wheels of the tractor and you would lose traction. An Fel , front or belly mounted blaed can be used with two way hydrolics. I use 50 lb suitcase weights on my blade to help with ditching when I want one side only to cut . If the arms are factory I would mot worry about breaking them.

So your telling me that if I lower my back blade, place a jack under it and lift it, my lift arms will move and allow the blade to move, while not lifting my tractor???

Thanks

With nothing hooked to the tractor. lower the lift arms. you should be able to grab the lift arms and raise them. That is how the lift on my tractor works. It is lift only.

Coot.. what the others are telling you are correct. very very few tractors have downforce on their 3pt. mostly it is ag tractors, and aftermarket 3pt kits using DA cyls on things like old JD and AC.. etc.

Yer chain idea doesn't help much..
