My kubota manual says to start the machine at approximately half throttle.

Ummm ... sounds excessive to me. I usually start it up at lowest stop (idle).

Where do you folks have your throttle setting at start and under what conditions ....? What make and what does your manual say?

Half throttle here.

I leave it at idle. My govenor automatically goes to full fuel until fuel pressure is built to unseat a check valve and allow external throttle control. The fuel shutoff also has a position for full fuel start, but I've never tried it..

I leave mine at idle as well during the warmer months. Lately in colder weather, I have started it about 200 rpm over idle. I have to guess where that is but I've gotten pretty good at setting it there.

My Mahindra manual says to start the tractor at lowest idle speed then bring up to 1500 RPM for 2 minutes to warm and circulate fluids. In cold weather temps follow same procedure except run for 5 minutes at 1500 RPM before putting under load. There is a similar shutdown procedure after running under load to idle at 1500 for a few minutes before shutdown. This manual covers the 2615 and 3015 models.

My Mahindra 4110 has always been started at idle - from zero degrees back in Tenn. winters to very hot Florida summers. I only use my glow plugs when below about 45 degrees, always starts with about 3 to 5 seconds of starter use. I usually let it idle for about half a minute for the oil to get everywhere and then kick it up to around 1200 rpm's for another 5 minutes on the average, a little longer the colder it is. In 950 hours this has always worked for me.

I used to start my Kubota BX23 just a little bit off of idle.

My manual said that, too, and I'm sure Kubota's engineers know more than I do, but I just could never bring myself to rev up an engine immediately upon starting, so I always started mine at the lowest idle possible, gave it a few seconds to circulate a little oil and then increased the RPM.

Mine is a little reluctant to start at dead idle. I bump the throttle a tad, that's a scientific term you know. It cranks at around a thousand RPM's and I let it run there a bit. Bit is also a scientific term. When it sounds happy, I rev it up and get to work.

Mine is a four cylinder diesel from Mitsubishi. I don't know what the manual says to do, but I'd still do what seems to make it happy. Things change, you know, and we all need to get in tune with our machines.
