Throwing oil out the oil file tube

My Montgomery Ward log splitter is throwing oil out the oil fill tube. What is the likely problem. It is a 10 1/2 ton Montgomery Ward, don't know the year it was made.

Over full.

Heated oil will expand.

Air saturated fluid.

JJ you make me laugh.

Air saturated fluid = check the suction line for leaks.

Tighten all the clamps or replace the hose if you have to.

Bad rings and blow-by. The combustion gasses bypass the piston rings and pressurize the crankcase on an old engine. That can blow the oil out of the dipstick or the breather. You can check the compression on the engine dry and wet to tell for sure.

Ok so now you have two different readers taking your original message two ways. You just need to clarify one thing. Is it the hydraulic oil reservoir or the engine that's throwing oil out the fill tube? I answered for the hydraulic reservoir and eddie48 answered for the engine. Me, too. I saw Montgomery Ward and thought, "Old Engine". That's when my brain stopped.
