I have a shed which uses Tie Down Engineering brand ground anchors, model A22. The shed is a Robin brand and was installed with a permit in 1984. The plan specifically states the use of model A22 ground anchors, or concrete footers of certain dimension and straps. Tie Down engineering no longer makes model A22, and has replaced them with model MI22, TDE p/n 59095. These are a 30" long ground anchors with two 4" helix's. They use a strap and bolt setup that attaches to the 4x6's supporting the shed, and then winds the strap around the slotted bolt to pull the shed down onto the concrete blocks.

My questions are as follows: First, how do the straps attach to the 4x6's? I have tried sticking my head under the shed, but I can't see where or how the straps attach. I want to make sure I buy the correct style straps and hooks as replacements so I pass inspection after I move the shed. I'd like to buy everything and then move the shed, rather than move the shed and go try to find what I need after I can physically see how the straps attach. Second, is there a good place to order these parts from? Tie Down Engineering doesn't do retail sales, although they did answer all my questions (I forgot to ask about how the straps attach). They recommended Lowes in my area for the ground anchors, but the kits supplied by Lowes use cables rather than straps, and the plans supplied by Robin specifically says straps and not cables. The permitting office and inspection office both say I can move it and strap it down using 1984 code per the plan, and it will pass inspection fine. Therefore, I'd like to find these specific parts.

Thanks

Jared, I have some limited experience with commercial modular buildings and the tie downs sound very similar to these. The straps usually attached to the units by running the strap over the frame and through the bracket on the end of the strap, then into the slotted bolt on the auger tie down. They may have a completely different way of attaching them to you shed.

As for where to buy the anchors, I did a google for mobile home tie downs and found a few places like this to get those types.

I don't know the brand of the tie downs, but the newer models surely have to be at least as good, if not better than previous models.

Good luck!

Tom
