Hi Folks,
I've been lurking and searching this site for a while, but believe this my first post. I'm in serious need of changing out the outer tie rod ends on my FX 255D (with one side being non adjustable the entire tie rod would need replacing). Hoyes and Fredrick's have nothing, but Kudos' to them for their awesome service. Has anyone any experience with sourcing tie rod ends from somewhere else, or know of a JD which might have the same parts on it? It has been mentioned the JD 870 970 1070 perhaps? Unfortunately, I'm in a very non-agricultural area and closest JD dealer is 8 hrs and a ferry ride away.
Has anyone gotten a much heavier tie rod and had it machined down to fit the steering knuckle on an F series tractor? would that be practical?
How have peoples experiences been with taking a grey tractor part into JD to find the North American match? My understanding is, in theory, they are not to help out?
Any and all feed back greatly appreciated. In the process of changing out the front axle seals, in part due to the the front wheels being so in incredibly sloppy and chattering around. I hate to think what the side to side chatter is doing to the gears in there as well?
Bryce
