Tier 4 Emissions Compliance

Trade off is fuel consumption, control.

When my kioti is regenning it's using more fuel, as most are, as they injecting fuel into the exhaust filter (the DPF item).

If you only do that 10 minutes every 30 some hours (as on my kioti) vs all the time on a branson how do you think that affects it?

And with all mechanical there is no control/check on the system where a computer controlled one only runs when needed (31 hours once, 38 hours another time).

Flip side is more sensors, computer - but that can be updated if need be, mechanical system can't easily/readily be adjusted.

I'm pretty sure that Branson doesn't use more fuel due to the DPF. They rely solely on the engine temps to get the DPF clean. There is no extra fuel added to the process. Hence the ease of removing the whole system by just removing the DPF can and the Data Logger. All you need is a new muffler and exhaust pipe.

My three cylinder Kubota L3560 regenerates once every sixty hours for about 16 minutes, the variation being relative to air temperature and how hot the engine is.
.
60 hours X 60 minutes = 3,600 minutes between regenerations.
16 /3,600 = 0.0072 of engine run time is regeneration. (7/10s of 1% of engine run time is regeneration.)

I calculate a driveway regernaton every sixty engine hours at 2,100 rpm costs $1.00 in fuel.

If I am mowing or pulling my Disc Harrow, both requiring considerable throttle, regeneration happens during operation.

I sell about every variation of emissions system out there. Probably 75% of the problems you read about online were induced by the operator in some fashion.

I am careful with maintenance. I just do not see that Tier IV as a big deal except that Tier IV did increase tractor prices, but most tractors got 2-4 horsepower more with direct injection as part of meeting Tier IV requirements.

Direct injection engines have been around since 2000. My Kubota is Not tier 4, but I have direct injection and high pressure fuel rail. Where is my extra hp??

My experience with direct injection so far is that it is much quieter, way less clatter and injection knock. I assume it's like newer trucks where injections are multiple per stroke instead of mechanical with one per stroke which really makes them quiet off idle.

not available because of the detune that occured at Tier 3 and tier 4i..

I sell about every variation of emissions system out there, beyond some slick branding no company really has anything truly unique. These systems are WAY beyond the R&D budget of most companies, so more often than not its another companies technologies. I would not say that any one system is more or less trouble free than any other, and probably 75% of the problems you see online where induced by the operator in some fashion. We'd have a lot less trouble if dealers did a better job of customer education.
That sounds good, but when we see you unload our nice shiny new tractor we want to get on and run it, not listen to you telling us the way to do it right. :D
Having said that the first few times that I had a regen I didn't find the manual very helpful and spent way too much time trying to figure out what to do; pushing buttons, shutting off the engine, letting it idle, etc, and caused myself a lot of unneeded aggravation.

I have not found any inconvenience of the regen on my Kub. If its during work where the I'm not hitting high revs on auto throttle, I just move the hand throttle up to maintain at least 1500 and keep working. I think Ive only had once where I was near the end of working and it went into regen. I simply drove it down the dirt road and back and it completed.

Hope I'm not breaking any rules, but was curious as to the readership opinion on the various brand methods for achieving Tier 4.

Is one method or brand more effective or problem free as opposed to others ? There seems to be quite a few posts over the subject of "re-gen" and the tractor dying or going limp due to some emissions issue.

Branson claims to be electronic free. So, I'm curious as to how they achieve compliance and what the readership thinks about Branson's approach to being compliant. I'd welcome any thoughts.

. What HP range ? Emissions equipment under 25HP is minimal .
