Tier 4 tractors, any problems?

Good information here on the Tier 4 engines. As a dealer the only problems (not really problems, just need to educate customer better) is the fact that most folks who buy 50hp and below tractors do not tend to use them long enough to get the engine to go into regen. What happens if that most folks will go out and work one day with their tractor for a few hours then put it away. A few days later they may use it for like 20 or 50 minutes and again put it away. They do this for a while and what happens is the system never goes into regen and the soot level build to over 100% load forcing the tractor into a de-rate mode scaring folks thinking they have really damaged their engine. To correct the de-rate all one has to do is hold down a button that forces regen for like 15 seconds. This will force the tractor into regen, all that is now needed is for the tractor to be left running at about 1500 rpms for 45 minutes while the engine completes its regen cycle. If this does not work then most likely the soot load has gone over 140% this will mean a trip to the shop for the engine to be forced into regen through the computer...THIS DOES NOT HAPPEN OFTEN as typically simply forcing regen with the button solve the problem. The one tractor we have seen that a force regen did not solve the problem actually had a short in the wiring harness where it was not zip tied down tight enough allowing it to rub up agains the exhaust and a pulley.

I would suggest that anyone who owns a XR3037, XR4040, or XR4046 check this harness, it runs on the right side of the tractor (if you are sitting in the drivers seat, left side if you are in front of the tractor looking at it). If it is not tied down properly, simply adding some extra zip ties will save you a trip to your dealer for repairs. If you do have to do this be sure and let your dealer know so he can inform LS. They know a few have gone out this way but we should have the problem taken care of now.

Chris: thanks for the info! I have a new XR3037 a with only 7 hours on it, it has gone into regen mode a couple of times looks like I will also force it in as well since it won't get too many hours ( my NH has 331 hours after owning it for 13 years and it was bought used with 125 hours!). Thanks again! Rohn

I have had my tractor for about 4 months now, it now has 270hrs. on it. the regen light comes on quite regularly and I didn't know you should run it that way until it is finished. I use it every day and I'm wondering how often should I do this? I am guilty of start and stop driving all the time. I use it all over my ranch and carry things around. The manual doesn't explain it well at all.

How often do they go into regen? And how much fuel does that use?

Thanks for the heads up. That worked perfectly. I'm checking the harness as well.

Diesels are intended for HD applications . That is full power, full rpms, full load , fully warmed up for hours at a time . Otherwise they bung up, in particular particulate filter equipped maxhine's .
