Tractor
Grand L3540 ,724 loader, bucket, grapple and now forks also! And just for OP.. a pool!
Ok, so this is the first tractor I've bought in about 9 years, I got a Kubota 3540HST. While looking at/for tractors I noticed part of the adds a lot of times included motor tier numbers, could someone explain this to me please? I don't remember seeing this before.

Emission standards, tier 4 is the latest I believe and it just means more $$$ since they have to do more to the engines to meet the standards.

more emissions stuff and more computers involved from my understanding. I stayed away from IV and went with the III.

I'm not sure what this one is, just went and looked at tractor data but they dont say.. not that it really matters though I guess.

There was an 'interim' Tier IV standard that allowed many 25-50 hp CUTs to pass with only EGR and a heavy cast iron muffler (hot, that!), and my 1.7L 2013 NH is one such. (pre-combustion chambers in cyl head too, btw)

I suspect that the L3540 is among the last not to require DEF, regen cycles, etc to meet Tier IV protocol.

Nothing beats 'getting it right the first time'. Congrats on a superb choice of CUT! :thumbsup: :thumbsup:

I see a lot of folks here throwing around "Tier III" as an all-encompassing description of anything before Tier IV, but Tier III was only in effect from 2006-2008. Tier IV Interim was in effect from 2008-2014, and covers most tractors bought in the last 6-7 years. Tier IV Final took effect for 2015 and beyond, and is responsible for all the garbage they are throwing on engines now. Most manufacturers started putting out their Tier IV Final models in 2014.

Ok... CUT? Compact Utility Tractor or something?

Ok... CUT? Compact Utility Tractor or something?

Yes.

CUT = Compact Utility Tractor
SCUT = SubCompact Utility Tractor

Don't ask about where the line of demarcation is between those two. An all-out war might break out on TBN. ;) For Kubota, the Kubota BX series would be considered a SCUT and the B and L series, along with the MX series, would be CUTs. The M series would be utility tractors. Rinse and repeat for other brands.

I would guess the tier 4 is more efficient than the tier 3. I assume there are less combustibles put out with tier 4. Comparing the two...I wonder how far a gallon of diesel will go between them. Work vs consumption.
