I'd like to tile our laundry room and I need some ideas on pattens and designs.
Most books show the "how to" but don't have much in the way of designs.
Know any websites or books or have a simple pattern that you like.

How big is the room?

The most common pattern besides going straight with them is to put them in as a diamond pattern. You can either run them right to the walls, or outline the walls with a straight run, then diamond in the middle.

One thing to be concerned about with smaller rooms is that you can make it too busy in there. If you use a tile with allot of character, it can really get overpowering.

If you have the space, you can always create a medalion or design in the middle and then lay the tile around it straight.

Also make sure that you don't do something too radicaly in case you ever decide to sell the house. People like tile, but don't like to buy something too far outside the norm. This could affect the price of the house if a potential buyer hates it and wants to use redoing it as a bargaining chip to lower the price.

the best suggestion i have is go to HD or lowes or werever and start laying tiles out on the floor to test patterns

Try here Daltile - Tile Patterns
click on the top left box to change to diff type patterns.

Been installing tile and epoxy floors for over 26 years and have seen all kinds of stuff out there.

The room is 12x7 but it has shelves and washer and dryer so it looks smaller. It ajoins the kitchen which is much larger so I thought I'd carry the pattern into there on a larger scale. I guess what started this was a trip to HD or Lowes about a year ago. On the wall in the tile section was a really nice pattern using the tiles you could purchase below the display. My wife and I liked the pattern but we were in the middle of finishing the MIL's house so project was put on hold. Now they don't sell that tile anymore. All I remember is it was 6x6 with a straight set border around the walls and a rectangle in the middle but some of the tiles were cut at 45deg.

At 12'x7' with counters and applicances in there, you may not see the whole pattern. This might waste your time and money on it? Rather than an inlaid pattern, maybe just go with a tile that has character and matches the kitchen color-wise? Nothing says you need to stay with boring white or solid colors.

My kitchen tile is terracotta with some brown swirled in and is mated to dark brown (low gloss) hardwood in the living room and hall. No patterns in the tile at all...

My mud room is 9 x 7.5 with a double door closet on one of the 9 foot walls. The other 9 foot wall has the toilet and vanity. Starting in the center of the room i placed 18" tiles at a 45 degree angle to the walls. I continued this pattern working out from the center in all directions. When I got to a point where a full tile would just about fit SQUARE to the wall, I stopped the diagonal and framed aound the pattern with tiles placed square to the wall.
I figured the closet doors as a wall and just tiled the closet square.
Id post a pic but I cant get it small enough. could email if you wish.

First off, thanks for all the replys. I looked at the Daltile link and I think this is the one I saw at Lowes.

I guess I need a mix of 4x4 and 6x6 to do this pattern.
I laid out a pattern with all 6x6 with two colors. The main is a sandstone and the inlaid is an olive green. What else can I do with all 6x6
