I am planning on buying a Tiller or Disc Would I need both
I am planning on planting about 1 acre in a garden.
I have about 11 acres that is mostly open.
I intend to use the disc to cultivate a lawn on the 10 acres not being used as garden.
Would a walk behind tiller serve my needs or would a PTO driven one be better?
As for the disc-would a 10" be better than an 8", etc Would more disc be better that less?
I don't have a clue since I am city farmer.
Any help will be greatly appreciated

Would you prefer one brand over another?

i use both on my field but i use the disk after plowing and before tilling. if you want a fine aerated soil to plant in then you need to use a tiller.

I don't see tractor size or hp shown? fill in your profile or give some details and tell what kind of soil, rocky; sand; clay or what? I'm not a landscaper or professional farmer, just a fellow who helps neighbors with smaller half acre gardens and once in a while my own projects. I have a 35hp four wheel drive tractor and work mostly sandy loam soil. I wil use a two bottom plow for primary tillage if I'm working in a old pasture or unworked compacted piece of ground. 6-1/2' Disc comes next and depending on moisture to hold down the dust I might use the tiller after, but most of the time the disc breaks down the clods fine enough. The people I deal with put a lot of store in not leaving wheel tracks when I'm done, this means having implements wide enough to cover or using offset tiller to cover one tire track. The implement that get used a lot is a KingKutter 6' rake it smooth's things out pretty good and it's versitile as I clean out barns and pens with it and drag the manure over into the garden areas. I don't know where you live or how fast the grass grows but your gonna knew serius rough or finish mower 6' wide or so for ten acres of lawn, unless your into Burmuda grass that don't really get that high. How do you water ten acres? Here in the desert that would require serious irrigation? bjr
