I want to purchase a 48" tiller for my 4010. The PTO hp is rated at 14. Will there be any problems with one from TSC like this one?

Rick,

I think it's a good match for your tractor. I'm running a 60" Bhuler Farm King on my 4110 (17 PTO HP) with no problems so far.

A 48" tiller is what JD lists in their list of attachments for the 4010. It takes the same attachments as the overpowered 2210.

<font color="green"> Ralph, how do you consider the 2210 to be overpowered? In the immortal words of Tim Allen there are times I wish my 2210 had "more power!"

Mike,

You gotta take what Ralph says about the 2210/2305 with a grain of salt -- you see, he's still in shock the 4010 isn't being made any more! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

JD will get smart and have competitors to the BX 1500 & 1800 series again. There are plenty of us around who see the value in using smaller tractors. In the meantime, my 4010 will likely last me until I want to turn up my toes. It was the smallest tractor will full Cat I capability when I bought it. Haven't needed more power. You just learn how to use the implements to stay within the power you have.

My wife still loves her 65 hp Benz. I'd like to have one with a bit more power, but I'm still waiting for them to bring over another diesel stick shift to replace it. It's adequate. I'll bet most of you would have trouble keeping up with her in town following in your wallowing 265 hp SUVs. I had to scoot in my Cabrio following her one day through the streets of Charlottesville. The Cabrio has a humongous 115 hp.

Good God! Now I know who I ran over in Jersey! It was Mrs. Ralph in her humongous 65 hp Benz! If only I had known . . . the only defense would have been melted Gravely parts and a Big Gulp!

PTO HP doesn't begin until 15!

Ok, jovial banter aside, wouldn't this 48" tiller be better due to its heavier weight (175 lbs more)? King Kutter recommends 20 pto HP minimum, but all things being equal, it seems it would work even with lower HP. Am I missing something?

<font color="green">RickS, Just remember.... a heavier tiller on the rear means more counterbalancing weight will be needed on the front if you don't want to loose too much steering ability or front wheel drive.

Depending on the frequency of tilling, size of area(s) to be tilled, and soil composition - the first tiller may suit your needs just fine on your size tractor. The second tiller is certainly sturdier than the XB model to which you linked in your first post.
