I have been seriously thinking of buying a tiller for my BX23. I am in New England and the soil can be rocky sometimes but the land I would be using it on mostly is not too bad.

From what I have read I believe I would like to get a reverse rotation tiller. Having it side adjust would be nice too.

So my first question would be:

If cost were not an option - what would be the "best" tiller to get for quality of constuction, reliability, etc. . I expect to keep this for quite some time and it may get used extensively.

Second question is:
Which would be the best "value" tiller to get.

I am somewhat familiar with tillers but I would really like to hear from people on what the feel the best option would be for a BX - and what their "dream" tiller would be if they could afford it. With the way the world is going I am thinking I may be doing a lot more gardening and I would like to get something while I can before prices go up.

Although I don't own a tiller yet, I have been looking a a lot of them. The Bush Hog brand seems to be one of the best looking units I have seen. That is probably the brand I will eventually buy. They are quite pricey, but I think you get what you pay for. I have been looking for a decent used one for quite some time now with no luck.

I have a Woods GTC52 forward rotation ( I have rocky, heavy soil) on my TZ25. This is by far the best piece of machinery I own! I used to have a JD tiller, and I like this unit much better. My opinion.

lots of people like the King Kutter II brand. i was looking at them and they seem well built. i ended up with a howse 54" i found on ebay for about half price of a new one. it's gear driven, offsetable and reversible, although it's a major project to change the direction. i have it set up as a forward rotator as that's how it was when i bought it. someday, may try it the other way, but for now it does the job fine.

I have a landpride 1558 reverse tine tiller that I use with my L3940 and I would absolutely reccommend it to anyone. The 10 series can be had in a 50 inch size, maybe smaller, as the 58 incher is a bit big for your machine. I have a catalog around here somewhere! The 15 series are offsetable, which was part of my reason to get it over the 1058. My only other tiller experience was from a walk-behind, so I can't really help much.

Good luck hunting!

I just bought a 6ft KK, and think it is bulletproof. Very tough, heavy contruction, gear driven, slipper clutch pto shaft, the hard clay here in Oklahoma is no match for this implement.

My JD 2210 is similar to your BX23. I have the Woods GTC52-2 and love it. When I bought, it was between the KKII 48, Bush hog, Kioti and JD 647. No regrets with the Woods. Plenty of power to run it and the 52" covers my tracks nicely.
