Any PTO tiller owners out there? Just wondering how well they perform and what sort of safety mechanisms they have built-in to avoid damage when hitting a root or rock, etc. Also a brand recommendation and expected price range would be helpful.

Hi,

I have a Kubota L3410 and use a KingKutter 60" gear drive tiller with slip clutch. The land it is used on ranges from nice fields to virgin rocky forest. After about 50 hours of tilling it is still going strong with only a few dents in the metal. It was about $1000 a couple years ago. If you have rocky ground get the slip clutch. What a time saver. Buddy has a cheaper model with shear bolts and he spends a LOT of time out of the seat with a wrench, where I am just going and going and going.

I think it does a pretty darn nice job getting the soil worked up and and getting rid of weeds. Typically it is used 2 or 3 times 5-7 days apart to let the grass and weeds die and break down in the soil. The second year of working a patch, it just looks great.
