2007 John Deere 4320
Hi everyone,
We have 60 acres of land that we had planned on building our home on, and purchased a 4320 about a year ago. Meanwhile, we got transferred and couldn't find a house with any acreage that suited us, so ended up with just 5 acres on the edge of town.

Since we're going to keep our 60, we decided to bring the tractor down here and use it for our duration here (5-6 years) rather than sell it and get a smaller model.

We have about an acre clear, the rest is wooded. We'd like to plant a good portion of the cleared area in gardens, and landscape the rest. I was considering getting the Frontier 60 inch heavy duty model, since that's what the local JD dealer carries. Is that a good match for the 4320 (size wise) and for putting in a garden bed?

Is the Frontier quality good?

Of course the tractor has industrials on it and they're filled.... we're probably just going to sink. :D

I think the 60" is a little small for the 4320. I have the John Deere 673 (73") behind my 3720. If I were you, I would go no smaller than the 65" for your tractor.

I had a 1160H that I shared with my father. He has a 4110. It was OK built. The frontiers are made by Machio. If you are going that route, save 500 bucks and buy the orange Machio instead. The Deere models are built a lot heavier.

Make sure whatever you buy, that you get a 6 tine, and avoid the 4 tine.

With your power, try not to buy slasher tines. Get C or L tines and it will work the ground much better.

Thank you very much for that info, I'll print that off and take it along with me when I go visit the dealers.:)

Well I went in ot the local JD dealer, and we pulled out the brochures on the JD673 model and the Frontier RT1170 model. (Both 6' ) They were virtually identical with 2 differences.

The JD has "hybrid" tines, a cross between the C & L types, and the Frontier has standard C tines.

The JD weighs 667 lbs, and the Frontier 761 lbs. The price difference was $50 in favor of the Frontier, and that's the one I chose, mostly because it weighed more.:D

It must have been my lucky day, because I also talked hubby into letting me order the Wallenstein BX62 chipper I've been drooling over for the past year. :D :D :D
