Hi, I have a Honda FR700 Tiller that I have been having some issues with. I am a novice at this but I would like to fix it up and also learn some things along the way.

Last year the tiller wouldn't start so I changed the gas and oil, but it still wouldn't start. After a while I noticed some oil spots underneath the tiller. I thought it might be because I overfilled the oil.

I wasn't able to deal with it much after that, but now I want to give it a go again. I drained the gas and oil, changed the filter, took apart the carburetor, and sprayed carburetor cleaner everywhere. I then put it back together, but when I started pouring the oil I immediately noticed oil dripping at the part between the wheels. Sorry, I don't have the terms down, but here are some pictures showing where it is leaking from:

Please help as I need to get this fixed ASAP. Thank you in advance.

Somebody I was talking to suggested the oil seals need changing. Is that the likely cause? How do I go about changing them?

You said you changed the oil. Was that the engine oil? Looks like what's leaking is the final drive. Is that gear driven? Can/have you check oil level in that gearcase?
In the pix we can't see the bottom of the gearcase. If that's wet, trace the leak up. Might be the axle seals. Sometimes they get twine or wire wrapped into them by the tiller blades. If its the seals. It will be oily streak down the case to the drip-off.
If this is engine oil leaking, that's another bowl of corn flakes. Why did you change it a second time?

Yep, determine if it is from the drive or the engine. Alot of times you will get a bit of string or grass wrapped around the tine shaft and it cuts the seal a bit and makes them leak. Mine leaks a little, but the tines are stuck on the shaft so I just top off the gear case every spring

Thanks a lot for the help everybody.

jimmysisson; sorry, it was the engine oil that I changed. I had changed it last year and it was after I changed it that I noticed the leaking oil. I thought the leaking was due to me overfilling the engine oil. Plus it had been sitting over the winter so I decided to drain all of the engine oil and gas and change it.

Yes it is gear driven, but I am not sure where to check the oil for it. I was going to see where to check it but I decided to try and see where the leak is coming from first. I wiped the machine down so it's dry in that area and then I added some engine oil.

So far I haven't seen any leaking so I am not sure what's going on and what happened before when it was leaking. I don't know if it's because I didn't pour much engine oil and I should keep pouring.

So I checked on it this morning, and there was maybe a couple of drops of oil on the ground. I felt around both sides of the axle but it was dry. I ran my hand around the bottom of the case and my fingers were a little oily. I'm not sure what this means.

Also, I said this was gear drive but I think I am wrong on that. In the manual it shows where to change the transmission oil, but I don't see that part on my machine.
