My MIL has a small Agri-Fab tow behind gas powered tiller that was left outside, and of course the exhaust port faces sideways...anyhow, there is water in the oil. I drained it completely (in fact I just left the drain plug out for tonight) and flushed it with kerosene as best I could. I read in another thread to fill it back up with fresh oil, run it for a little while, then drain and fill it again.

Does this sound like the best method of action at this point?

sounds like a good plan to me. Keep checking the oil for milky foam, and change oil as many times as needed to get rid of it.

After Hurricane Isabel the year before last, I had several engines go under a few feet of water(salt) i flushed them and changed the oil several times after running till warm. They all run fine now with no problems
