Nick37:
I had a Woods T42 tiller mounted on my old Ford 1100 for 22 years. I live in the Berkshire foothills and have harvested a fine crop of rocks, broke up ledge, and discovered some serious boulders during that time. About 3 years ago the differential on my tiller developed a hairline crack that appears to be worsening. I talked to local tractor dealerships who felt that Woods equipment was not as solid as the old T42. I looked at the King Kutter II TG-60 (gear driven), but its PTO requirements (25-40 HP) exceeded my new NH TC29DA's 23+ PTO HP. The gear driven CCM MR-160 (58") was more expensive but its PTO HP requirements (18 - 60 HP) best matched my tractor's specifications. The MR-160 was about $200 more than the TG-60 (including shipping) and about 140 #'s lighter. I decided to go with the MR-160, ordered one, and I am currently awaiting delivery. I am suspicious of chain driven units, but that is my subjective opinion. There a quite a few posts on TBN of individuals in rocky areas who are more than satisfied with their chain driven units. I would be leery of breaking new/unknown soil with one of those "reverse rotation" tillers as large rocks could jam rather than be "thrown" by the rotating tines. Just my humble opinion. Good luck on your research and purchase. Jay
