Tilt meters

I talked to Rick at R and B Manufacturing about a possible mount on the fuel cap, but he does not have a design for that. I don't want to drill holes in new sheet metal, you guys have any ideas?

John,

It's funny, but I went out last night and looked for the ideal mount, sat in the seat with the meter sitting at various places on my hood, even made little (eraseable) marks on the hood for drilling spots, but couldn't quite bring myself to commit to drilling. Then I tried something weird.. I tightned up the mounts on the meter so it was rigid, opened my fuel cap door, slipped the mounting legs into it, and closed the door. It sits there just fine! The door closes 90% of the way, and it holds it quite adequately.

Now, I know this is a kludge.. but I can slip the meter on when I'll be mowing or going places I haven't been before, and take it out if I'm just pushing snow up the driveway. I'm not totally satisfied (and I suspect Mark would be horrified /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif) but it sort of works.

I wonder if Rick would consider something like this, one designed for just this type of install? Make a mount that lets people just open their fuel doors, set the meter in there, and close the door? I don't know about other makes and models, but for the JD 4300 it puts the meter in a pretty good place with no holes needing to be drilled, no sticky tape needing to be used, etc.

Wish I had that camera my wife and I keep talking about getting someday. I hope my poor explanation makes at least a little sense to someone. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Just ask Rick for the double stick tape mounting option. That's what I used 'cuz I couldn't bear to drill into my hood either.

Hi Guys,
I now have a SUPER strong double sided foam tape for
mounting the tiltmeter. I have tried it on the old 2 leg
mounting system, and it seems to work well. No holes drilled.
If anyone wants some of the tape, please call. I'll send you
some. The new bracket with no drilling required works well
also. And for anyone that has drilled holes, and wants to
move the tiltmeter, I have small black hole plugs. Just
put them in hole and press them in. 1/4 in. holes only.

Bob:

If you hesitate to drill holes in shinny new metal perhaps we could effect a change of tractors so this would no longer be a matter of concern for you.

Egon, A masterful plan, but I also hesitate to drill holes in old rusty metal.. so I don't know if this would work.

Rick, Great! I'll call you Monday! Thanks, Bob

Bob et al,

Yes, drilling holes in your new tractor.... I wrestled with that dilema for a few weeks. Just couldn't find a suitable spot on the 4100... so, gulp... had to drill. It's done... don't like it but I have a tiltmeter to back up my pucker factor in those touchy situations. /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif
