Tilt Steering parts cost

Just priced out the gas shock for the tilt steering on my 1630 Boomer. The price 167.95. Granted the tractor is five years old, but at 275 hours, it works out to about 60 cents an hour for a feature that I never really used. It really gets to be a pain trying to steer with the steering wheel floating all of the time.

Guess I never realized how expensive some parts are for tractors. And people use to give me the dickens for the price of motorcycle parts, which seemed a lot cheaper and was not even for a needed tool.

Maybe the shock can be rebuilt like my snowmobile gas struts or my hydraulic cylinders that I have had done on old loaders????

SIR,
if possible,why don't you make a bracket that will
lock the steering wheel in one position.

I have been thinking about doing that for some time, but have not had the time to take it apart to check out the feasibility of it, I am sure that it would work. Also contemplating using two square tubes, one larger than the other, with a pin to adust the angle if needed.
