The tilt steering just locked up on my 4310 today. To top it off it locked in the down position, I mean all the way down. I have to throw my leg over the hood to get on and off. It acted kid of stubborn once this afternoon and then the next time it wouldn't budge. I disked about 5-6 acres this weekend and it was really dusty so I thought maybe there was dust in there that might of been making it act funny. Drenching the steering column with water didn't help. I can pull on the lever to release the steering to the point that the handle flexes but it won't budge. I guess it will head to the shop this week.

There was a P.I.P. to fix this problem but it expired in June of 2003. You may want to go to the dealer to see if they will still install the upgraded parts. Here are the parts replaced. 1-LVU11566 Lever, Tilt Steering
1-LVU13503 Latch, Tilt Steering
