Can I use a double acting cylinder to build a cushion cylinder for my tilt trailer? How do you plumb this? One hose from port to port? drill a small hole in the piston? Thanks

I messed with this about 20 years ago, I tried using a shock absorber from a Semi trailer. It did not work to my satisfaction.
I would think the trick with the double acting cyl. would be to restrict the flow from one side to the other at the right rate to give you a cushion. That would not seem to be difficult to do initially.
I hope you can tell me if you figure it out. I don't have the time to mess with it.

fill with oil only with the cylinder retracted. put a valve on the line from one end to the other that you can open to your satisfaction. If you fill the cylinder with it extended, you will have more oil in it than it will hold once retracted.
