I've not sold any, but I'll ask a friend who does pulp pines.
Do you mean 17" inches, or 17' feet? John

MMM no have not sold any:

make sure you get several quotes, and make sure you get you're OWN timber grader, and get all in wrighting... if they won't sign in-wrighting, then don't deal with them... lots of croocks in the industry.

I think there was a post in the rural living forum a about 3 months back about timber & pricing wher a lot of good info was posted.

I would say get an independant consulting forester. The charge about 10% but most times will get more for your timber. I just had 30 ac clear cut. Now to get it replanted in longleaf.

Can you tell us more?
Logs are measured on the small end, so is 17" the scaling diameter of the small end of butt (only) logs? I'd want to know the log weight to bf scale before selling by the ton. Maybe you already have that information.

Are you looking for prices on the stump, or are you logging and bringing these logs to a landing, or are you delivering logs to the mill to sell them?

All fresh cut logs? All live logs? Bucking practices? Some mills will pay more (or less) depending on how the logs are bucked. Poor bucking causes big grade yield and log yield losses to the mill.

Lots of information needed to make any comment on your prices. Wish you luck and the most you can get. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Oh, okay, think I get it now. I'm waiting for a response from my friend. My cousin lives in Tickfaw between Hammond and Independence, LA. He does pines as well and I'll check with him too. John

I was quoted dia no less than 8" @ 16' for log, other than that it was >17"/<17" butt(stump) for price grading, with mill knocking off weight for knotty, catface etc. These are prices I'm paid, I just have to keep tally on # and type of loads to check against mill tickets. I really don't have time for consultant. It's pretty difficult to get someone out to cut 12acres nowdays. The contractor is cutting a 40 adjoining mine and I need to seize the moment. Just trying to make sure prices are ok.

I just got a quote for pulpwood pines, at $6.00 per ton too.

I checked with two friends who both said they were not current on the prices because they have about one to two years to go before cutting time.
One did suggest that in Florida, the prices will def. be down as a lot of the hurricane clean up will go to the mills thus lowering the prices. John
