About a month ago, I started having my steering unit leak on my green machine (that’s what my wifes name is for my 2425) It wasn’t that bad at the time so I decided to wait before I pulled it off and had it serviced through Power Trac.
Last week One of my drive motors started blowing oil out of the front seal so I decided it was time to park the machine pull the steering unit and the drive motor out and send them both to Taswell to get repaired. Terry and his team did an awesome job, they had the pumps repaired and on their way back to me within 24 hours.
While i had the drive motor and the steering unit out, I decided to go ahead and pull the engine, check my Lovejoy couplings and clean out and pressure wash the engine compartment. While I was in there, I inspected my hoses and found one that had chaffing. It had exposed the braided metal but had not worn into the braided metal. I put a split hose on it wrapping it at that spot and tie wrapped it to protect it. All the other hoses looked ok. I pulled out my parking brake cables, clean, serviced, lubricated and put another set of springs on them so they would work properly. (I had only one side working. so now my parking is working correctly).
I found that on one of my Lovejoy couplings the rubber star in the smaller pump assembly was cracked so I ordered another one to replace it. I’m waiting for the parts to come back at the moment so I can put it all back together. I also ordered an extra cooler (bought one on eBay for a good price) and I’m going install it on my machine in addition to the one it already has as well. I use it a lot and I have noticed when it’s warm in the summertime that I lose power because of the heat. So i adding an additional cooler to cool the oil downeven more. I don’t have on yet, but I will post pics later. I have pics of my machineof the before, and after on the cleaning see below.
I also had to replace the coils and diode wiring harness on my engine so that my engine would shut off properly. It quit shutting off properly because the diode in the harness was bad. It would only shut off when I turned the key off and the fuel solenoid cut the fuel off to the carburetor, then it would run out of fuel and shut off.
I am trying to take advantage of the down time and do everything that needs to be done while it is down.

Nice! I look forward to the rest of the story. You make it sound so easy, and I'm sure it wasn't!

I wrapped all of my hoses that were lying on the floor of the engine compartment and on the floor of the front end/FEL hoses with the nylon spiral wrap when I got my machine. Some of the FEL hoses are starting to check a bit from age / ozone / sun, but no wire braid/mesh showing yet.

All the best,

Peter

My 2425 is a 2001 model which makes it easier to work on I guess because there’s not as much stuff on it so to speak my modifications also help out with the transition of removing and replacing items. I had to replace the exhaust on my Subaru engine, which is the power plant because I couldn’t find another muffler I actually had to improvise and make a custom set up for my exhaust, which works very well it reduces the heat in the engine bay as well, allowing the engine itself to blow the heat out the back more effectively

My chair also is different than the original. Somebody modified it to be more open.

Your empty engine compartment before picture looks like my 425's. Amazing amount of stuff I'm getting out of there.

Nice job.

FWIW: I really like the muffler heat shields (muffler wraps) that I put on my Deutz. It really helped get heat out of the engine compartment.

All the best,

Peter

My exhaust pipes when in the tractor blows out both sides and allows the air from the engine to blow over the pipes and direct the heat straight out the back of the machine. I also have foam padding that i put around the machine in the front tub to keep it from getting the hot air from the oil cooler recycled back through the front of the motor keeping it continually pulling in fresh air from the two intakes from the machine above each steering cylinder. It made a BIG difference on the air flow. I will send pics when i have everything back in place. It eliminated my problem of vapor locking, and keeps my temps on the engine down alot as well.
