Hello Folks. First post. Been reading awhile now. Lot's of great information. I've had some health issues over the past 6 years and things got out of control around here. We were directly hit with Hurricane Katrina and it made quite a mess. The property (appx 8 acres) is getting out of control. I've got lots of cut up trees laying under lots of brush and blackberry bushes. Small trees growing up all over. The dirt driveway is fairly washed out and needs some fill dirt and limestone brought in. You get the picture. I'm not a brand name hog and just wanted a good, reliable small tractor to help me out. I've checked out Kioti, Mahindra, and finally the LS models since I don't want to get too deeply invested in this. I spoke to several people who have the same tractor in the McCormick and they love them. The Kioti even with the "free" FEL along with the Mahindra were around $4000.00 more. I settled on the LS S3010 tractor and will pick it up Friday. Getting it for $12,195.00 so the price seemed right. It's 28.5 hp Mitsubishi 4cyl is supposed to be quite a reliable workhorse from what I understand. It's 4X4 and got shuttle shift plus the FEL. Seems like a well built little unit. I sat on some other brands and since I'm so big (6'4" 250), none of them are exactly "roomy" but I fit good enough. I'm pretty excited about getting some stuff done around here. Thanks in advance for any good info you can help me with. One thing I'm curious about is what RPM on the motor do you use when bush hogging and fel work etc. Just a general rule of thumb or something. Take care and have a great day.

Welcome Kempster.

The standard max. pto speed is 550 rpm. Usually on your engine tachometer dial, that is marked. You don't have to run the pto that fast if the cutting is light stuff.

Don't know anything about your particular model, but as mentioned engine RPM to get the required 540 is going to vary and this will be in your manual.

For clearing brush and blackberries look at a ratchet rake or tooth bar for your FEL.

Good luck with your projects.

Hope you have fun with it. Just take it slowly until you get a feel for everything. For FEL work, most guys run their tractors 1700 - 2000 rpm. There was a thread about that a while back. I don't know what your tractor's max. rpm is, but very few people run at max rpm speed it seems for FEL work.

Check your tractor over for loose bolts, that is common on new units. Check it again after using it 4-5 hours. Lug nuts, loader frame mounts, etc. Also check the engine & transmission oil, gear oil in the bush hog and grease all zerks, time to find all of them :)

If the dealer didn't set up the pto drive shaft on the bush hog, check the length of it. When the mower is raised all the way up on the 3pth arms, there should still be some space for the shaft to slide together. You don't want it to push in on the tractor PTO output shaft when it's raised up.

By all means, when in doubt ask, it's a lot cheaper :p
Be safe!
Dave.

I'd never heard of LS Tractors before reading this post. Interesting. Looks like a pretty good machine for what you need. Good luck with your project and welcome to the forum!

We love looking at pictures, so be sure to take some of your tractor in action and post them!
