After a summer of stump removal, hump trimming, hole filling, and assorted hauling, pushing, and dumping, I'm just about ready to level, rake, and clean everything up.

I have about 50 spots, averaging 200-300 sq. ft. each, where I excavated stumps. Some of these spots are somewhat level and clean--indeed, some of them have already grown back a nice carpet of grass (albeit crabgrass...but it's better than nothing). The rest of the spots are still a bit rough for the X495 to mow, and also have assorted roots and rocks laying around. The biggest rocks are about the size of a shoe box, but the majority are 1/4 that size.

I also have some areas that decent grass has just never taken hold in--either because they're hardpan or too shady.

I have at my disposal a 6' box blade, a disk, and a 6.5' chain harrow. I will be purchasing a landscape rake before getting started.

I'm thinking that the correct procedure would be to first use the box blade to get the few high spots trimmed down, then disk, then rake up the rocks/roots, and then harrow everything before seeding, fertilizing, and mulching. And then pray for rain. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I've never used a landscape rake before, so I'm just wondering if I have the correct order of operations.

Thoughts?

Hi,

That is pretty much the sequence I use. Once I have the area level I angle my rake to windrow to the side, in large areas I angle from the center out to both sides. I remove my debris piles(s) and start my seeding/fert.

Where are the pics? May need to rip up the soil with the box shanks before being able to level it with the box blade. Be sure to weight the box and disc for good tillage and chopping.
