Tractor
2015 John Deere 5115M, 1928 and 1945 hand start John Deere D's,
Greetings all, like the last couple posts I used this forum as one of my main research tools when looking for our new tractor. We selected a 5740C and have had it in the yard for the last week or so. I've been very impressed so far. Have 16hrs on it snowblowing/pushing, and as I write its snowing again. Starts right up with out the recirculating heater plugged in (so far its only been down to 0 in farenh) but will get a lot colder when the weather breaks. I'm sure starting won't be a problem with the heater going. The cab is great. Warms right up in there. Had to add 12v cig lighter fan to keep the light fog off the back window, now its clear as a bell. I have a couple questions, the 4wd lever seems to pop back out of 4wd easily, is it supposed to snap into place with a positive action? or is it my wide a** pulling it out when I turn around to watch the snowblower? Also a few posts have mentioned axle bolts getting loose, could someone enlighten me so I can monitor ours. Thanks, looking forward to getting back out there.

I was probably the only one who posted anything about the loosening bolts. They were the series of bolts in a circular pattern that face inwards on the front axle. Mine loosened up and one fell out. We loc-tited them and re-tourqued them and haven't had a problem since then.

There isn't any kind of a positive lock or indent on the 4WD lever. Mine has never popped out. I do sometimes knock my range selection lever out of LO if I am moving around a lot.

Other than a couple small glitches in the beginning my only problems so far have been due to low hanging branches.

Thanks jc7622, I'll keep those in mind. Hopefully all holds together until the weather turns a little more friendly to checking out all the bits and pieces and nooks and crannies.

Hi Tul01, congrats on the new tractor and welcome to TBN.

My 5740 shifts very easily into/out of 4wd position, and I have on ocassion bumped the shift lever with my left leg, moving it back into 2wd position. If you are having problems with it popping out of 4wd position on its own, it will probably require a minor shift linkage adjustment.

Enjoy the snow plowing chores in that toasty cab!!

I'm very impressed so far with the power and control on both the tractor and the loader. Here's a couple of photos where I had to work through a snow pile to get to a septic tank on the other side. Everytime I've used the tractor I've had to turn the heat down in the cab after a bit to keep from cooking. Great heat! :D

Wow those pictures look like real winter. If it ever snowed that much at my house I would probably snowed in for a month.

WOW, is the ground in the foreground flat , or is there something at ground level that humps up the snow and creates drifts, just don't see that here. Sidey

You sure have some serious snow up there. That heater means a good deal in that weather. A weak or marginal heater wouldn't get the job done in your area. Brrrrrrr.

The pictures are of the end of the parking lot. The ground is actually ditched underneath the snowpile to drain the melt in the spring and off the roof after heavy rain. We tend to drift bad here especially in the later part of the winter when the winds are strong and the snow gets "drier". It doesn't help it is nearly a mile to the next bush and a lot of empty fields. I sure do enjoy the heater. Our old tractor was air cooled and there was a heater that worked off the crankcase oil, unfortunately when it was cold out the tractor never did warm up enough to throw heat.
