Hi All. I have been a member for awhile and one post so far... I read all the JD threads with great interest and have learned a ton. Thanks to all for that.

I have a '05 X585 that I use to cut 2 acres and for spraying etc. I love the machine and don't plan to trade it in.

My plans for the new purchase include rough cutting approx. 4 hilly and sometimes steep acres, building a pond, extensive landscaping including preparing a new house site in a few years and general log skidding etc.. Maybe in time moving round bales as we stable our horses away now...but my wife can see possibilities with the new tractor...

The attachements i plan on purchasing are a 200/300 CX, MX 5, back hoe, 655 rotary tiller, box blade, I Match, Power Beyond, 3rd SVC, Ballast box and a chipper if I don't hit bankrupcy first!

I have been l thinking of a 3720 for the hp withthe MX 5 etc. I have read many posts about the abilities of the 2520. Size of frame is not an issue as i don't have to get into too many tight spots. As far as I can figure, the cost diff. will be approx. $8000.

I've been presented with an opportunity to by a 1 year old 85 hr 3120. It has the 300CX, air seat, ballast box and that's it. No extra hydraulics, mid pto etc. The cost would be $14,000 or so. I'm in Canada but with the $ at par, it should be a reasonable comparision for your thoughts. If I buy the 3720/2520 new, I will most likely by in Montana. The savings is approx. $6000.

Could I get your advice about the 2520 or 3720 as to the best way to go, and if the 3120 can do what I need it to do without too much cost to get the hydraulics etc. set up vs factory.

Thanks in advance for your help and advice.

There can be many ways to go with what you describe and honestly it sounds like bigger machines are need than what you were looking at -

You definately need the 3000 series tractor, at least. The 2520, while a great tractor, is very similar in capabilities and specs to the 2320. I have operated both and bought a 2320. Great for my needs, but I'm not skidding logs of any size. The next real step up is the 3000 series tractors. Depending on the size of logs you may be skidding you may have to go even larger.

I also have an X Series (X485)...awesome garden tractor (the Best!:D).

Have fun shopping...

North, I think you need at least the 3320 for use with the MX5 (PTO) unless you want to cut smaller sized brush, I do highly recommend the MX5 it will cut pretty much anything you can run over. The 3320 is an awsome tractor with tons of power and good clearance, I have logged in over 40 hours on my property of 160 acres this fall cutting brush and still have lots of work to do this rig makes it pretty enjoyable. North, for the uses you describe, don't overlook a 5103...they go pretty cheap
