Time to trade in the Cummins?

I agree. If you have a good Cummins engine and the body is decent, why trade it? Sorry, just a Ford man sticking up for common sense. Cummins are good engines, the most important part of a truck.

I would keep the Cummins will cost u more 2 replace when you realize u shouldn't have gotten rid of it.

I have a 2001.5 6 speed HO 4x4 quad cab (only 130k miles) that I plan on keeping until I'm gone; my son has first rights after that. He keeps trying to buy it off me, I'm not selling, he is going to have to wait.

Live long and make him wait. Those are nice trucks.

I would not sell that truck.
The 5.9L 2004-2006 are really nice.
I have included a link to a company out my way that sells 600 trucks a month (used) nation wide. They are very well know in the used truck market apparently.
They basically do not negotiate on the 5.9L and the 7.3 L because they can get what they want because folks will pay it. They specialize in the "GOOD" years and low miles and send their buyers all over looking for the trucks to buy for resale.

They laugh at KBB values as they say we get the best and we can sell them for what we want and folks will pay for the best.

True the rust belt is hard on the trucks and it should be a crime to use salt on the roads but they do it and it destroys trucks.

Yours looks really nice (even though it is a short bed) and you should have no trouble selling it. But I wouldn't do it if it was mine.

OK time to come clean: Enough trash talk about the F150. I sold my 1999 Dodge/Cummins 3500 4x4 dually cab and a half about a year ago. It was a real nice truck. I just didn't have the need for a heavy duty tow rig. It was replaced with an 86 f250 4x4 4sp/ 460ci. It, like the Dodge, sets most of the year, but is driven occasionally, when I need to tow something heavy. I miss the Dodge, but I don't miss the $400+ registration fees, or the insurance, but I do miss the 12+ MPG! 445A

I did the same thing this summer when I sold my F350 4x4 dually to a friend of mine...
My wife and I had not camped in 5 years and wanted to sell the camper...
When I was asked about selling the camper I had really no intention of selling the truck but was offered a good price...
Thought about it and sold it...
Purchased a 07 2500HD Chevy and pocketed the difference...
And it was substantial...
I understand your decision and I am sure it was one that you did not want to do...
But with those rust issues it is the smart thing to do...
Nice truck...
If it was down here in NC it would fetch a really good price...

As far as the rust issues, the first thing will be cab corners, probably needed next spring. I've already fixed the rockers and the body man said he felt pretty good about them lasting a long time. After that it will be either the tail gate or the rear quarters. I had them fixed over the rear wheel wells but it was half assed job. It will probably last several years before the rust shows above the fender flares. Keep in mind I posted photos but everything always looks nicer in photos.

I looked at the link above that had a few Cummins for sale. Those prices are very high but it all looks like top end very nice trucks. Some of the prices are almost what the truck would have cost new. I would always be worried about the odometer readings on some of those low mileage trucks but a Carfax would probably tell the story.

I always have to rethink it when you guys talk rust, since it is not prevalent here in Calif.

Yep, those Dodge Cummins trucks are bringing really good money. I recently saw a 2007 reg. cab 2500 4WD work truck with a 6 spd and approx. 58k local miles. Average condition for a plain jane - $26,000. Sat on lot less than a week and I was told the price was non-negotiable.
