Tin Roof Rusted!!!!!

I have a 30x60 Morton pole building and I want to paint the roof due to rusted areas. the areas rusted are on the ribs and it is just surface rust right now. My question is whats the best way to prep and what type of primer and paint to use Thanks

A company named Conklin makes a product made just for this purpose. Do a search on them and find a local distributor.

I've got an additional question. I have some tin roof - several that are 30+ years old - still provide cover but have places that need repair and or replacement.

In repairing a place or two a couple of months ago I noticed almost all the nails were loose. Some areas where the water has seemed to make a track are very thin.

At what point do you just tear it all off and replace it? It still looks galvanized on the bottom side.

I thought Morton warrantied their paint Do they not?

Morton might paint it for you especially if it is visible to high traffic viewing, wink wink.

There are companies that make products specifically for this purpose. I don't know if they will sell it to you or not. Do you have acess to a Grainger? If so, I could pull some Rust-oleum numbers for you. Rust-oleum has a industrial line of coatings that Grainger carries.

I spec'd out a Morton barn a couple months ago, they told me it was warranted against fade and rust for life. They told me they use Sherwin Williams paint, so you might want to talk with them as well.
