I bought my New Holland TC21d in December and it was outfitted with specified per manual R4's. I proceeded to purchase a set of specified per manual turf tires and wheels which are 4 inches shorter in height per spec's. Today I decided with mowing soon to be needed I'd swap the wheels and tires to get the tractor ready. Upon completing this task I raised the 914a mmm and found that it will not hardly come off of the ground due to tire height difference. Is there an adjustment I am missing or has this now just become a fact of life??? All input appreciated.

Thank's,

Brad

Brad,

Somthing doesn't add up here with the large difference you have in tire height. I was just looking at the manual (I have a TC-24D, same manual, same dimensions) and it shows a difference 0.2" in height of the tractor as measured at the steering wheel and ROPS (page 4-6). That's less than a 1/4 inch and almost impossible to notice! The R4s are taller, but only by 0.4". What size R3s did you get and what size are the R4s that came on the tractor? Manual calls for 31x13.5-15 for the rear turfs. Double check the tire size, a 2" difference in tractor height (4" in tire height) is a lot.

The other thing to check is the left lift rod on the 3PH. The 914A manual states that it has to be pinned in the highest hole for the cushion lift system to operate properly. The right lift rod then gets adjusted to level. Does your deck raise to the stop bar under the tractor? Does it raise high enough to insert the pins to keep it in the lift position so you can use the 3PH for other things? If so, that's as high as you are going to get it. But it should be high enough off the ground with the right turfs.

Let me know what you find out, I'll try to check other dimensions on mine if you still have problems. I don't have my mower out of storage yet, we just had ice out on the lake last week!

Brad,

Per my manual on page 2-24 specified R4's are to be 12-16.6 rears and
23x8.5-12 fronts, which came on tractor. Per manual same page turf's are to be 29x12-15 rears and 20x8-10 fronts which I bought separate of the tractor.
As the tape measure reads in vertical height 4" difference and now that I have run the tractor I lost speed and picked up power as expected with that type of difference in size. My mower deck does not raise high enough to engage the storage pins, I assume this is due to adjustment being incorrect from previous owner. I will have time to look at the mower manual tomorrow and try to adjust ANY HELP IS APPRECIATED. The one other thing I noticed is that the right side raises higher than the left ALOT higher.

OK, the 29" were originally specified in a brochure for the 2003 when I bought, but the machine came through with the 31". That's still only a 1" difference in tractor height, not a big deal.

Check the left lift arm on the 3PH for your bolt position, definitely needs to be in the highest of the three holes. Then level up the 3PH arms with the adjustable right side lift arm. See how that works, if it still doesn't bring you up tight to the tractor, there are other adjustments in the cushion lift system that can be made, especially if somebody messed with it. Which holes on the deck are you connecting to the lift system? I can scan some pages out of the manual if you don't have it, might take a little time.

Let me know, good luck! You'll like the cushion lift system once you get it adjusted. You will have plenty of clearance with the 29" turfs, and more power as you mentioned. I run out of power before I run out of traction, always been a frustration of mine, but I'm sure that's because the tractor was originally designed for 29", not 31" like they put on later in the model run.

Thank you, I'll post what I find tomorrow after I lay on my head on the concrete and swear at it for a while.

FWIW, I have a tc33 w/turfs. With the MMM set to its highest cut the deck does not raise very high off the ground. However it does raise enough to insert the pins to keep it up so I can use the 3pt. Manual says if the 3pt. arms are not adjusted correctly as mentioned above, damage to the lift system can happen. Since you stated that the deck has considerable difference side to side (height wise) this might be something to consider. Greg
