I need to add ballast to the rears of my Kubota L4400. I do not want to add tubes. We have abundant locust around here and tubes are always getting punctured. Freeze protection is a minor issue.

I have the hose attachment and I ready to go but I'm very concerned about rust. I plan on adding anti-freeze but I don't know how much actual rust prevention that will provide.

I've heard of the process of using wiper fluid but it seems expensive and getting it in the tire seems tedious. I also have no idea how to get it in bulk. I don't know how many gallons I'd need but I think there are charts that tell that. A lot, I'm guessing. I suppose you'd just put the air/water adpater on the tire valve, attach the hose to that and then stick a funnel in the hose and pour the wiper fluid in. I think that would take forever.

Finally, I've been doing a little Googling and I've emailed these folks to see if this would work:

Any additional thoughts?

On windshield washer solution. Pour it into an empty barrel, then pump it into tube just as you would water/Cal Chlor mix.

Biggest problem is what to do with alll the 1-gallon plastic bottles! /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

NAPA sells it (here anyway) in 55 gal. drums (if you have a way to handle 450 lbs in a drum)

I don't have anything to pump with. The method that I'd planned on using uses a garden hose and faucet. I'm still exploring the methanol though. I've contacted a couple of bulk suppliers. I'll see what their prices look like.

Handling 450 pounds might be an issue. My B-I-L has some drum dollies that will work in his shop. Getting it in the shop is another story. He also has a heavy duty hand truck which might work.

Simple solution, why not just use the FEL to lift and help you with the 450 pound barrel. Surely your loader can handle the weight.

Okay, I have 14.9-24 rears. According to the charts that's 47 gallons of fluid each to fill them 75% full. The autoparts stores on the web sell the wiper fluid for around $2.50 a gallon so it would cost $235 at retail prices. I'm guessing buying bulk is cheaper. Problem is that I need 94 gallons. Two 55 gallon drums would include 16 gallons of waste...... I guess I could us it over the years as....washer fluid.

Can anyone tell me how much corrosion protection you get from ethylene glycol antifreeze?
