I have been looking at a set of chains for my tractor but I'm not sure where to begin. My tractor path to the woods and my lower two sections of yard becomes very difficult to get up in the winter when the snow gets packed or it is icy. I'm just wondering if anyone has any certain suggestions or if and kind of chains will work. I like the DUO-240 Procraft DUO Farm Tractor Chain. I have also looked at the v bar duo grip as well. I do not think I need something that aggressive, but I may be wrong. I move a lot of logs and firewood if that makes any difference, so I just need something to help with the climb up without getting a running start.

.................
Lot of good chains choose from but what you stated I would learn towards "aggressive",I would lean towards least good ice bar/cheat tire chain.

Some members might ask if your rears are "loaded" and what type of tires you have...e.g. R4. Good luck on your 'expensive' hunt. And you probably have a 4 wheel drive I assume.

I've been very impressed with my Trygg chains (second season).
TRYGG Kjetting

They aren't cheap, but they work awesome. In addition to the chain, each link has square studs that dig into the snow/ice. My only complaint would be they only come in a few standard sizes, and then must be adapted (and cut) to get to the right length. (They have great videos online how to do it, though). After doing it once, then subsequent installs are straight forward.

Hammer............FYI I have the two link ladder chains on R4 unloaded tires with 4 wheel drive (Kubota B2620). They will mark my concrete driveway; but other than that they work fine for me in snow, moderate ice and not very hilly field conditions. Occasionally I have to lock the rear wheels. Hope this helps.....

Another trygg user here. They are a smart investment.

They are the best. Lots of logging contractors use trygg tire chains on skidders. Very good wear, stay tight and no question on if you have enough traction.

The longevity of trygg chain is unreal. To get over 18 months 'two operating logging seasons of wear here in the Rockies is normal for a set of trygg skidder tire chains... Not so much for other brand of skidders chains.

White mountain chain is the dealer for Trygg chain. Google White mountain chain and see the different styles and bewildering size assortments for ag, forestry, trucking and automotive.

The set of trygg I bought for the rear tires for XR3140, the 8mm smt style are just awesome. They take up little clearance important on a cut, tighten up good, and the design of there twisted links and studs flex with the tire and grab traction like no other tire chain:thumbsup:

If you are almost getting by now then you'll probably be fine with a less expensive chain. However if you have ice or frost and are willing to spend the money then the Trygg or Aqualine Talon chains are what you should get.

My experience for what it is worth.
Every 3rd link crosses studded!
Nice ride, no skip/hop and fantastic traction.
Costly unless u DIY them.

I run 2 link, V bar ladder chains on our loaded turfs...
The V bars are nice to have when the packed snow glazes over to broken hip slick ice...
No problems..
