I am planning to buy a new tractor in the next couple of months. Long story short, after careful consideration and shopping, I'll likely be getting a kioti CK 2610 HST.

I am having a pretty tough time making up my mind on tires, and dealers seem to be pushing the R4 which is what they have in stock. I have seen similar discussions and have read through the threads; however, there seems to be somewhat contradictory information and I want to run through my particular situation without the pressure of what's on the lot influencing the advice.

The primary uses for the tractor will be gravel road maintenance, snow removal from the gravel/dirt roads, as well as assorted landscaping projects (mostly over finished lawn).

I have 4 acres, which is mostly finished. >2 are lawn which I mow with a zero turn, the majority of the remainder are a hay field which I also mow with the zero turn, however it is quite bumpy and I may opt to mow it less frequently with the tractor. In a fairly complicated arrangement, I will be grading/maintaining ~1/3-1/2 mile of gravel roads, and also light brush hogging of an additional 1-2 acres. I will want to use the tractor for projects and moving materials over the finished lawn areas without doing significant damage. I live in a pretty wet area and near a lake, and the lawn tends to be pretty soft both in the spring and the fall.

With all of this considered, what is your recommendation? If there wasn't so much road work involved it seems like the answer would be turf tires. I have a friend with the same tractor with R4s 10 miles away with similar conditions, and he often cannot go on the lawn because the R4's will tear it up. I have spoken with kioti and R14 will be available, likely in the coming months, on the CK 2610. I have tried to read into The R14s and have not seen too much in the way of user reviews, but at least based on the sales info, they seem to be easier on turf than an R4 and likely a good compromise for me?

I guess some questions that I'm looking to answer are the following:

1. Will turf tires be disappointing/inadequate for the road grading and associated loader work? Are they really that likely to be punctured during bush hogging?

2. Is there reason to believe that the R14 would be a best case scenario for what I'm describing? If they are easier on turf than R4s, particularly in the wet, and sturdier than turf tires, this seems like a good compromise of what I am looking for.

Turfs are great for lawn work - not for loader or brush, front sidewall has a tendency of spinning off the rim under heavy load, sidewalls are weak for forest / puncture - I had a set of turfs on a 2610 HST - they were nice for the lawn but had issues with the loader - when I got the 3510 I had them ship it with R4's when the R14's are available that will be they way I will go - for now the R4's are OK on the lawn with a little raking once in awhile!! From the write ups as well as YouTube I think R14 will be the answer.......

R4/industrial tires are 6-ply (stiff/robust) construction. Almost always paired with tractor/loaders, where a great deal of weight bears on the front tires, relative to a loaderless tractor. R4 tires recommended if you will be burning debris.

R3 and R14 tires are 4-ply.

The most vulnerable part of a tractor tire is the sidewall.

I do not see how the R14 can be EASIER than an r4. R1 (ag) are the worst, r4 (industrial ) somewhat milder, so if you split the difference how could they possibly be easier on turf than either one? Everything I have read is they are to have a little more grip than an r4 but stiffer walls (for loader work) and a less aggressive tread than r1 - truly a compromise. But not what you need if you are worried about lawns.

EDIT - I looked at more recent literature and indeed Goodyear is now stating it has features of the r3 so they do claim it to be easier on lawns than r1 or r4. Supposed to be the best features of all 3

I agonized over tire choice a few times and have always been happy with R4's. Nearly went with turfs twice. Soil conditions are different and they may not work well at all for you. We have a small creek in the front yard that comes out over the banks on occasion. I can take the L4240 and mow it two or three days afterwards. There's no mud here that would give R1's an advantage. I trust R4's for loader work.

The Nokian Hakkapellitta tires are kind of interesting though.

According to tractordata, my LS XG3140 is 100 pounds heavier than a CK2610, at least as far as bare weight goes. Mine does have loaded rear tires, but the R4s definitely tear up the lawn unless it is completely dry. Straight line travel is not so bad, but any kind of turn carves it up, whether in 2wd or 4wd.

Turf tires will hurt you at resale.
