Tire Choice for HPX Gator

As I noted in a previous post, I have purchased a gasoline HPX Gator. I have not yet gotten delivery of this machine. My question is about tire choice, whether HPAT or HPAP. My dealer says he will swap out either tire I want. My uses will be paved roads and gravel roads that are steep, some mud and soft ground, but not a lot, and some mulchy areas that will be pretty soft. I want a tire that grips well but will not damage soft ground too badly. Some of the softer areas are steep and will require good traction. I also plan to buy a snow blade and move snow, again from roads and drives that are 20% in some places. I am not against chains in those cases, but would also like a good traction tire. I do not want something that is too cumbersome on the road with regard to steering. Thanks.

I have the HPAT tires on my HPX. I've been very satisfied with them. They handle mud without clogging and drive well on gravel roads. They should handle snow just as well. I had a 6x4 Gator with the HPAP tires and found they filled with mud immediately and lost traction. Had great flotation but no go. I would recommend the HPAT.

I have the same tires you have. I use them on my lawn. We just received a ton of rain and the ground was really soft. I was driving all over my property with them and I did not leave a mark. So far I have really liked the tire.

I would like to go to a Maxxis Bighorn though. Does anyone know if I can get 12" rims for the Gator? Can I go with a 25 or 26" tire? If so what will that do to my low end?

These tires work really well - I am not sure if they are the more aggreesive ones or not.

Those are the more agressive ones. They would be perfect for plowing and for soft ground. I dont thing there would be a problem The ones that more like turf tires wouldbe better for grass but they will not be as good at all for mud and plowing.
