I have a low rear tire on my JD 5310. Tried to inflate it with a small compressor but could not get the chuck to depress the valve stem core. Also tire guage would not depress the core of the stem. Do I need a special chuck? Can I inflate the tire with a small compressor like ones used for cars.
thanks for any help, farmdog

That should take a standard valve stem/core. The cores screw in, so it's possible it's screwed too far in. Use a small pin, screwdriver or something that will fit within the valve stem and give it a push. You should hear air coming out (maybe a bit if liqiud too, if those tires are filled). If the tires are filled, I suggest you rotate them until the valve stem is at 12 O'Clock.
It's also possible the core is no good. There is a tool used to remove valve cores (it's also used to to chase the threads). This is available at most auto parts stores (maybe Walmart or TSC too). Surprisingly, it's call a "Valve Core Removal Tool". Pick up a half dozen or so valve cores too.
As far as the compressor..yes, you can use a small compressor but it'll take more time due to the volume of air required in the tire.

Good luck!

Thanks for the advice, espcially about rotating to 12 o'clock. Getting late in the day so will have wait until I get my cataract surgery Monday.
thanks, farmdog

ps.. if you do remove the core.. jack the tire up to take pressure off of it.. then clean er up.. put in a new core then leave her jacked up to reinflate.. easier on the pump...

FYI I've found that I have two sizes of stems. So if your chuck won't fit on the stem you might need an adapter.
