Tires Tire pressure in 3x20... WOW....

   / Tire pressure in 3x20... WOW.... #11
On my 3320 with unfilled R4s I run 25 psi in the rear and 35 psi up front. The specs say 20 to 31 on the rear and 12 to 49 up front.

I think you guys are right in normal use a tire filled to 3/4 full should have an air pocket large enough to provide a good cushion for the tire. My concern is (right or wrong) climbing over a small rock stump or log where the tire needs to deflect more to keep from bruising the tire. If the air space is reduced by 75% (by filling with liquid) you will have less deflection. Is this a moot point?

No, its not a moot point. You can run slightly lower pressure [a couple psi]. The tire deflection from no load to full load will not deflect as much as if it were just air. Due to the increased compression ratio your tire will actually have higher pressure in it when carrying a full load than would an air tire. Its best to run no load pressure a little soft for good ride -- then with the increased compression you will still be able to get enuf squat at high load to put down a good footprint for traction.

I run 12-14 PSI on my filled rear tires (Titan R4 17.5L-24) even though the manufacturer recommends 16 PSI for the load with rear snowblower attached. I found that 16 PSI gives a harsh ride and skids more on ice and besides, the blower exerts no downward pressure when lowered. Front tires are Titan loader tires 10-16.5NHS and I use 35PSI with standard bucket, 40 PSI with the much heavier snow blade.

It required some experimenting before getting it right. First of all when the tractor was delivered to me rear tires had an astounding 40 PSI in them which was the same as the front tires. Having assumed the dealer knew what they were doing I didn't bother to check pressure before taking the machine out for a spin that night. Needless to say it was a rough ride with me popping out of my seat at every bump, so much so I had to strap myself in with the seat belt after about 1200 feet and turn around. The morning after I finally had a good look at the tires and it was plain obvious to anyone they were grossly overinflated.

I run 12 pounds on my rear Turf specials and 20 on the fronts.

20 pounds of air pressure is the same if it's in a 100 gallon tank, as it is in a 5 gallon tank, just a lot less volume.
