I have found a problem on my 4100, when I raise the rear mower to max height, it is rubbing on the inside of my left tire and tearing it up. The tractor has turf tires on it, as that is how it came in the deal. I am keeping the mowing deck low but then it bounces around. What am I missing, is there an adjustment on the three point hitch? Should I change tires, it works o.k.when mowing, but is a problem when just moving.

Thanks, Bill

Though I can't imagine the reason why it should do that, you might be able to fix it by reversing the dish on your wheels... If it can be done on a 4100??? If so, and they are currently on the "in" position, by swapping the left rear tire for the right (important only if you have a directional tread, otherwise you can just remove the wheel/tire and reinstall 180 degrees reversed), you will get more clearance.

However, it seems that there might be another (and more serious) issue (could be compatability or adjustment). The Befco mower on my TC21D does not even get close to the rear tires... especially with the "floating" linkage (which extends the reach of the 3 point hitch)

Good luck.

Sounds like you may need to adjust the turnbuckles on each side holding the 3pt arms, so they center the lift arms between the two rear tires (as you said, it only rubs on one tire). Adjust them so there is little sideways movement of the arms when in the "moving" position.

Another possible fix, if your pins that your 3 point attach to on your mower are the bolt on type, and if you have room, move them from outside of the hitch frame to the inside. This would gain you several inches of additional clearance. You may have to adjust your anti-sway chains to hook-up but it might save your tires.

I agree with beenthere.

You need to crawl down and adjust the turnbuckles to "take-up" the slack on your draft arms. I had the same problem with my 4100 and my rototiller. Once I tightened them up, the problem went away.

As a heads up, you need to watch where the hole is for the locking pin. The design has a lot to be desired. /w3tcompact/icons/crazy.gif

I had the same problem - couldn't get the "perfect" adjustment with the turnbuckles. I picked up a half dozen 7/8" flat washers and put 2 or 3 on each side over the lift pins between the balls and linch pins. That moved the lift arms inward enough to get a good adjustment. The spares go in the box under the seat, see http://www.tractorbynet.com/cgi-bin/compact/showflat.pl?Cat=&Board=jdown&Number=105857&page=0&view=collapsed&sb=5&o=0&fpart=.

you might also check to see if the mower's frame is put together right. [i found mine to have the upright bars on the wrong side of the flanges - this was a difference of 1.75 inches in width where the pins were].

i am using both ideas of washers, and moved the pins to the inside of the 3pt cradel. this has been working fine for over a year now.

i only had an issue with the rough mower, all of the other attachments worked ok by doing the proper turnbuckle adjustments.

[mower is a kingkutter, 4ft].

Bill, can you shorten up the top link without seriously affecting the mower's ability to float? Having a longer top link ususually is the cause of the mower coming so close to the tires when raised. Just for info, Do you have what some people refer to as "check chains" holding up the front of the mower when mowing or wheels?

Thanks for the input, I got the manuals this week and will try the adjustments, the washers may work and will help.

Thanks,

Bill
