I am about to finish my trailer. I picked up some Chevy rally 6 lug wheels for cheap. I realized they were 10" rims after I dismounted the tires. Will 225 75 r15 tire fit this rim. Yes...they are 15". Will I get a good seal?

I looked at some tires that size on TireRack and it said use wheels from 6-7.5". If you use tires wide enough for your wheels, they might stick out from the fenders. JC

that's pretty wide for a trailer wheel (rim) and no, those size tires will not fit on that rim.

part of the specification for each tire is the width of wheel they will fit. usually it is a range of about 1/2" to 3/4" either way. like 6-7.5" for a 225 tire, etc.

to get to a 10" rim, you'll have to go up to a 295 width tire. that may mean a very low aspect ratio like 45 to clear your fenders. you'll never find this or anything close to it in a trailer rated tire, only radial car tires and mostly low profile performance tires. depending on the loads and trailer usage you expect, this might work for you, but you'll spend a ton for the tires in this size and you'll loose gas mileage due to the rolling resistance and most likely will sacrifice load capacity as these tires are designed to grip the road in performance car and street truck applications, not to experience the loads of a heavy, towed, trailer.

i would sell the rims you have and get some proper rims for the trailer so you can shoe them with trailer rubber.

I lied, they are 8" rims. They probably will work.

I have those tires with 7's. I would not use 8's. They are pretty square with 7's.

Pm me if you want pictures.

Using rims that are too wide for the tire will make the tire susceptible to rolling or blowing off the rim, IMHO. Had it happen years ago on a 4x4 with rims that were really too wide for the tire.

I should listen better at what you guys are telling me. Your right, they don't work! I could not get the beads to seal for nothing. To much spacing. It kicked my butt! I went but to the original wheels which have 7 inches of spacing. The rally's are back up for sale. Thanks for the information.

I took a chance on BCT trailer tires. I know they are made in china, but a treadepot.com they will deliver to your door shipping free for 65.00 each. Load D 2500lb plus tires. I read about this tire on their website and they have pirelli technology for making tires. Did they steal it? I don't know but they mounted easily and they look like pretty good tires. Anybody have any experience with these?

nope, never heard of them. but, if they work out well, let us know. i am looking for a good tire to replace the crappy ones that came on my tandem trailer.

sometimes it's hard to find a good trailer tire. the local selection is often very limited and i don't think tirerack sells trailer tires.

that's why it's important to use a standard rim size. the selection gets even more limited as the size gets farther away from standard and if you have to order them and wait, you'll be screwed if you have a flat far away from home on the road and can't get a new spare in that small town by the interstate.
