I was looking at a JD 5225 and it had rear ag tires that are 13.6-28 on a 12 inch rim. They were shorter and considerably narrower than a tractor that was 10 Hp larger (JD 5303). These were 16.9-28. I was surprised to see that difference.

Can anyone help me understand what the implications of these Shorter and Narrower tires would be in operating the tractor?

Not sure what information specifically you are looking for, but in my opinion you see the larger wider tires standard on the higher horsepower tractors in most line ups. I have 14.9-28 tires on my 2WD 5105 and have driven a neighbors 2WD 5205 with 16.9-28 tires and the 16.9 tires seem to substantially improve the traction. These two tractors are the same size and set up the same. The 5205 has a few more horsepower, I think 6 at the motor and 4 at the PTO. The other side too is that the larger tire holds more fluid for ballast which also helps. I personally would go with the biggest tire I could for my needs and use.
