Tire size

I am the new owner of a very used Kubota B8200 that needs at least one rear tire. That has led to some questions.

TractorData.com says the OE Ag tires were 8.3-24. It currently has 12.4-16. The OE turf tires were on a 16 rim. Did they just put Ag rubber on the turf rims?

It is a 4WD and the front diff has a stripped gear. I'm guessing that may be due to mismatched tires? If I stick with the rim that it has (16), how do I fix the ratio on the front if I repair the 4WD?

I found some specs online for the tire sizes

Kubota B8200 Tires:
Ag front: 4.00-12
Ag rear: 8.3-24
Lawn/turf front: 24x8.5-12
Lawn/turf rear: 13.6-16

Even with all tires correct you still should not use 4 wheel drive on dry solid surfaces like pavement. You probably are right on the stripped gear.

The tires on the front are 6-12, also Ag tread. The rears are 12.4-16.

Can I stick with that rim/tire size and still get the ratio worked out for 4WD? I'd rather not have to find new rims as well as rubber.

I think you are going to need to get the right rims and tires for the rear. Maybe a tire guy can get you close but its never going to be right. Live and learn.

Basically you get it on flat blacktop in 2 wheel drive and mess around with chalk marks on the road and on the tires, counting revolutions of both front and rear wheels.
This gets you the ratio of axle speeds. THEN you pick a front tire that is 3% to 5% longer (longer AROUND, i.e. greater circumference) than what you had on there.
ASSUMING that those were right.

Option B is to go to the manufacturer's web site and look it up (-:


I don't know about the stripped gear.
I admit to having come onto hard good surfaces at a turn while in 4WD and all I get is hop hop hop i.e. the tires give up before the transmission or axles do.
POSSIBLE, it probably depends how much abuse it has had in other ways too.
Does the existing tire wear indicate a lot of chunking that might be due to hopping ?

I don't know if those tire dimensions I got off tractordata.com is right or not. Maybe someone has a Kubota B8200 and has a manual can chime in. You might try posting on the Kubota part of the forum.

I've only had it for 5 days and the guy before me had it for 2 years (he just got it to put in a pool). The front diff was cooked before either of us had it. The tires don't show any of that kind of wear, but it's had a lot of history that I don't know about.

I'm thinking I might find rubber to take care of that one tire for now and put the rest on hold. The local tire shop wants $1500 for rubber and rims on the rear. I only paid $1700 for the machine!
