Can anyone help me understand what the numbers on the tires mean.

I was thinking about getting some turf tires for my B6000. But the sizes stamped on the sidewall do not seem to correlate to sizes at the firestone website.

Arent the rim diameter and total height all I need to make a determination? what about load capacity. Do all tires of this typo have sufficient capacity to hold up the FEL, and the 3PH implements? Is there a load range to look for?

The other post about tire prices and 'gouging' brought this up, so what is the 'straight scoop?'

So what size are you talking about?

Some tires are measured totally different from the way normal car/truck tires are. If you are looking at something like 24X6.50X12 The tire is 24 inches tall, 6.5 inches across the thread, and on a 12 inch rim. They normally do not come in load ranges just ply rating.

I know that some trailer tires have both load and ply range, but haven't noticed load range on my tractor tires. I had the same number problem you are dealing with when I tried to find chains for the rears on my tractor.

i wish i was at home with the tractor now, but as best i can recall, the sizes were labeled as 14-24 (rear) and 5-12 (front)

these seem to be out of order to all the references found at firestone, and even the titan link, from Irwin.

i just want to order the turf tires. what is the rim measurement that is needed? the inside lip diameter? maximum lip? what about the width of the rim? and is the turf tire usually the same width (across the tread) as an ag tire? Is it possible for the tread to exceed the width of the rim? I would like to widen out the rears as much as possible, to increase the foot print.

I know the fronts can't go much wider, since they would hit the FEL when turning, but the rears seem like they could be much wider.

(and i am assuming wider is better correct?)
any thoughts on how to figure out how to maximize tire size?

If you have ag style tires now the turf sizes will be different. We need more info from you..
Here's a tire for the front in 5-12 Titan® 2006 Tire catalog

as for the rear tires we'll need to know some measurements..Sometimes rim sizes are different going from R1 to R3, R4 ..but often rims that fit R4's will also take turf tires (R3) Also if you have 4WD then the ratio has to be close or front axle damage can happen...

Here's the link (I think) this info page explains the tire ratio requirements. TractorSmart home page Look under "Info" then "tire size matching"

Also you need to know the gear ratio (rear to front) for your tractor. I don't know where you a find this information, so I calculated it for my B7100. (Somewhere between 1.45-1.47 as near as I can calculate for B7100)

The way I calculated was to jack up one side, (in 4WD) carefully turn the rear wheel one complete revolution and measure how far the front wheel turns.

Best of luck
