Sorry about the repost. I think I posted in the wrong forum first time.

Just bought a new 1635. Discussed it with the dealer and still not sure so I thought I'd get the answer from the experts here. I'm going to be doing mostly finish mower and bush hog work with a little road upkeep and snow removal. There are a few slopes I'm going to be mowing on sideways. My question: If I move the rear wheels and tires out wider will I notice any increase in stability enough to justify it. The dealer didn't think it would really help much considering what I'd be doing. The tires are filled and there is a FEL. Thanks for any advice. Here's a couple of pictures the way it sits right now. Also, are there any reasons NOT to widen it bit. My box blade, FEL, and mowers are all 72" wide if that matters any.

I hate to say it but from those pictures they are out as wide as they'll go.

On second glance maybe not of you swap the rims side to side?

I've got my wheels out pretty wide and it is a very noticeable improvement on side slopes. You obviously want to keep your rear width narrower than the implements. The book may even say not to go wider than you are now even if it with physically work.

No question wider tread rear tires will improve stability, whether yours will go wider is another question, like DT86, from your picture and looking at my L5740, it looks like it is as far as it can go without spacers. You will be able to tell by looking at your manual.

The wheels on our M8540 are set to the next to widest position and it is quite stable, we didn't go wider as it works well as it is.

There is a thread on here somewhere on adding spacers.

Congratulations on your new tractor, very nice looking machine.

Thanks guys. The manual didn't give much info about it. Just 3 settings with reference to the tractor mass. Didn't quite understand it. Although you both are probably right about it being as wide as it will go already, would there be any reason not to widen it if possible?

It does look like the rears are as wide as they will go. The center is "dish" out. It appears the wheel rim is bolted to the center with the most of the wheel outboard. But hard to tell for sure in the picture.
They look good to me comparing them to the fronts.

Well that's good news. I'm new at this and want to be sure about things.

Here's one more picture from a different angle.

Looks like you might go a little wider flipping sides by looking at the rims on the tractor sitting next to it.

Yea, they did seem to be a bit wider then mine but mine has bigger tires on it so I don't know.
