Tired of leaking tires

This thread hit a nerve with me. ... I took the wheel to the local tire shop and told them to put a tube in it. ... So I picked it up paid him $60 and put it back on the tractor. Next day it was flat. ... There was no tube in the tire, just Slime. #%&#@$$!!!
I do hope you snatched your $60 back off that tire shop and took some extra scalp with it.

I agree with JWR. If you pay for something, you should get it!

I had a tire continue to leak on my sprayer wagon. I finally, out of frustration, used pine tar to seal the bead to the rim! Never leaked after that.

I messed with the front rims on my bx1860 for five years. When I traded it for a bX 2370, part of the deal was having the dealer tube the front tires before I even took delivery. Well worth it.

This thread hit a nerve with me. About three weeks ago I gave up putting air in one of my 4430 front aircraft tires (we have a few thorns in So. Texas) every time I used the tractor. The tire would not seal to the rim. I took the wheel to the local tire shop and told them to put a tube in it. He did not have the tube and told me he could have it the next day. No problem, I'll pick it up in two days. So I picked it up paid him $60 and put it back on the tractor. Next day it was flat. Went back to airing it up every day. Thought about driving to Wharton (about 2 hour drive each way) and buying a new tire. But on Thursday the tire was flat again and had separated from the rim. There was no tube in the tire, just Slime. #%&#@$$!!! Not wanting to drive to Wharton, I decided to try to seal the tire to the rim myself. After two tries and a LOT of bead sealer, it appears to be holding.

Sounds like you got slimed. What's aircraft tires doing on a tractor, you getting ready to fly over the up and coming new border wall? Maybe you should get a Northerntool manual tire changer around $75.00. That's what I've done, I do my own 7-16 AGs. I started putting tubes in after the first 6 months of owning my tractor. I tried the bead sealer couple times, didn't work for me, maybe because of heavy FEL work. So after a few times of tire up, tire down, I went with tubes and if I run over a nail, happened once, dismount tire and put a patch on.

Yeah same here. Les Schwab guy de-slimed the tire, patched the hole, installed a new tube, remounted the tire. Total was $15.96. Yay Mr. Schwab!

Aircraft tires are 18-20 ply or more & made for 40-80 ton aircraft. You can run them at 0 psi & they don't get crushed. Popular for wagons & impliments as they are cheap after they are retired from aircraft service.

I have a tire story to tell. My BX25 had the standard factory bead leak on one of the front tires. Eventually the sidewall gave out on it from running it when the air was low and dryrot. I took the wheel and tire to what used to be a good local tire shop. The guy said it would take 2 weeks to get a new tire because it had to come all the way from South Carolina to Maryland by FEDEX. I don't know why he would BS me like that but I told him to go ahead and fix it.

After two weeks I called them and he said he tried to call me but he must have called the wrong number. Anyway he said it was fixed and when I went to pick it up he said he would put it in the back of my truck for me, and it looks like he is trying to hide it behind his leg or something. I could see that instead of the industrial tire I had on it originally he put an ag tire on it. I decided just to live with it and go elsewhere next time.

The next year the other original tire went bad. So I was shopping and I found some Carlise Tires called WT 300 Turf Tires. They have the bars like an industrial tire but they are angled, sort of like the ag tire tread pattern. So I ordered two of them online from summit racing for close to the cost of one industrial tire. I compared the weight specs and these tires are slightly less than the industrial tire but I did not think it would be enough to make a difference. And it took less than a week to get them.

I took them to a good local auto repair shop and had them mounted. Of course one of them had a bead leak as soon as I put it on the tractor. It held air fine until then. I sprayed it with soap water and there were two big clusters of bubbles on the bead area. I got some new kind of Slime product that does not require removing the valve core. It is a pressurized can that you screw on the fill valve and all of the slime injects into the tire by pressure. That fixed the leaking bead tire.

For the other tire that did hold air it's direction of rotation was wrong! I took it back and he switched it so now I have two non-leaking tires and the tire story is over.
