Tractor
TC 48 Newholland
Does anyone know what the mechanical ratio is on the TC48da. My tractor has been thru 2 sets of 9.5-16R1's and now needs the 14.9-28R1's on the rear replaced. The original ones came from Goodyear or Titan brand. I've put a set of new Carlise on the front because that was all I could source at the time. Haven't been happy with them from day 1. Now she needs all 4 replaced. Would like to switch to a R4 pattern however this would require rims as well. So I'm going to have to look into finding a suitable replacement for what I have. Problem is tractor tires aren't a standard rolling circumference, there by causing binding. This is already evident due to worn rear tires and newer fronts. Any suggestions?

How many hours on the tractor? How often do you have the front end locked in? Tire wear can be caused by several factors. How much time you spend on hard surfaces, how much turning you are doing. If the tire sizes you have on there came from the factory that way, your ratio should be correct. On larger front wheel assist tractors, its very common to wear out two sets of fronts to every 1 set of rears.

You are correct that rolling circumference can vary from brand to brand for a given size, especially on bias tires, but I wouldn't think so much so that it would cause a lead or lag issue.
As you are probably aware when you turn a tractor that is locked in 4wd, you get binding and or slipping going on as the tires are trying to cover different distances during the turn. This happens on pickups as well. On muddy or soft surfaces, there is enough slippage to negate most of the binding. On pavement it can really scrub off rubber especially on the fronts since they are smaller. If you have a front end loader with a full bucket, you get even more scrubbing on the fronts.

Let us know what you are doing with the tractor, how much you are or off pavement, and how many hours you have to get a better idea of your wear rate.

Thanks,

1600 hrs. Never use 4wd on pavement unless loading gravel from said. Tractor does not bind up but can be hard to shift out of 4wd if on hard surfaces. Have worn out 2 set of fronts to 1 set of rears.
Obviously going to have to replace all 4 tires. So just trying to get back the same ratios front to rear.
