ford 1910,wheelhorse 18 automatic,
I am about to reinstall my tires on my 1910 after having repaired and painted the rear wheels that were showing signs of corrosion.
Now both tires were pretty sticky to the rims outboard side...why outboard rather inboard I don't know!So anyway my question is:Is it good practice to maybe buff out the rusty stuff on the tires edges? If so how and with what tool? I've thought using a drill with a wire wheel. Now mostlikely I'll end up with a cleaner surface to mate with the rims beads and depending the effort I put in maybe also a rougher edges into the rubber .Should I do this or just reinstall them the way they came out?
How do you proceed?
My tires are good but 23 years old firestone.
thanks.

I buff my tire beads with a reddish colored buff wheel that fits in the drill. It will wear away with lots of use but it will really smooth out the bead. I have used the wire heel on the rim to remove hardened slime or whatever I may have put on the rim to help mount it previously.

Going to dismount my spare wire brush and repaint the rim on my pickup spare. I will use a cup brush on a 4 1/4 side grinder. Then prime and paint.

if you are familiar with mounting tires.. then disregard.. otherwise.. have a couple irons / spoons present.. and even a pair of vice grips to clamp tot he bead to provide a stop for a spoon, and you work the other around.

set rim edge inside tired and then it's not to bad to get that one in all the way with a lil force.. then you can pry it out hte other side working your way around.. install tube.. be carefull not to pinch it.. use a valve fishing tool to keep the stem available near the hole.. tire soap or vegi-based lube can be used if needed.. I reccomend lubing the bead to help it seat without using max air pressure.. if they don't seat perfectly.. let em set.. they usually wil.. and if not.. run em. that almost always seats them..

Might I add then take your time with the spoons Im always in a hurry and think im going to go faster if I take big "bites' on the tire with the spoons.many many small bites gets it done with the least amount of frustration.
