Sorry if this is a silly question but I'm confused about tires. I have a 1920 that has R1 bar tires on it. I have come to realize that in my soft sandy soil the tires really dig in and I'm considering going to a R4 industrial tire. I think my R1's are 13.6/24 in size. I called the local Co-op and explained my situation and the tire guy said R4's are not made in the size I need. So, is this true, can the 1920 only be fitted with R1's? Thanks in advance.

I don't think you will notice much difference in "Sinking-in" between R1's and R4's of the same size. Might you consider turf tires?

The typical r4 alternative for 13.6-24 r1s is the 17.5-24 but would need wider rim, and larger front tire if you have mfwd, best bet is to call the dealer (while you are sitting down.)

maybe reverse the rear tread to dig in less.

I have considered turfs but ruled them out because I will be doing some field work, planting clover, etc. as well as snow removal

Woodlot, as far as I can tell the 1920 was not available w R-4s, however there is a 14.9-24 R-4 that would work on the rear. The front poses a problem because the 10-16.5 R-4 will not go on a 15 or 16 inch rim. I have turfs on my 1920 and have been looking at your same issue. A 31x10.50-15 tire is the same height as the 10-16.5 but is only available in truck type tread patterns. The other suggestion is to have wheels custom made but they are a tad on the expensive side.
