Titan tires

I knew they were fairly large, but had to google them to see how big they are. According to the interweb, they are the third largest manufacturer of off road tires in North America. Over the past couple decades, they've acquired off road tire companies such as Pirelli, Goodyear, and Continental. I didn't know Goodyear tractor tires are made by Titan.

May I asked when Titan purchased Continental tire co? Titan doesn't appear on Continental's website.
Thanks,Jim

I got sloppy in my post. Most of their acquisitions were of Ag divisions of these other companies. And as RickB noted, Titan sold off some too - mainly the ATV/golf cart/lawn and garden lines. Here's a clip regarding Continental Ag:
"In 2005, Titan purchased the farm tire business of Goodyear, and continues manufacturing Goodyear agricultural tires under license. This acquisition included the plant in Freeport, Illinois. Titan again expanded in 2006 with the purchase of Continental AG's off-the-road (OTR) tire assets in Bryan, Ohio. Titan acquired it for about $53 million." I think that was a portion of Continental, when they exited the Ag tire business. Continental tires have been bought and sold 2 more times, and have now re-entered the Ag tire business under the Continental name.

My 6530 came with Titans. Seems the tractor is shipped without tires and wheels earning the import fee for "tractor parts". If you google map the Rome, Ga. headquarters you can see stacks and stacks of mounted tires in the lot. So far they are wearing well and I have had zero problems.

I just bought a set of Carlisle R1 tires (8-16 6 ply) for the rear of my 2400. Delivered half a dozen rolls of 5x4 hay down the newly sealed county road( small rocks embedded in a layer of hot asphalt) and after the fact, noticed that the rubber had rubbed of in chunks on the front of the tread bars. Course anybody running R1s on roads wear out the front of the tread but never saw it worn off in chunks. Now, did this have anything to do with Titan, who knows.

Just remembered I wanted a set of R3s (33x12.5-16 4 ply) for this machine and a Google search only came up with Titan as a supplier and I bought from them.

Local Titan retailer said that If I ordered them and waited for a truck to come his way on it's normal route, there would be NO shipping charges.....geez that sealed the deal, plus he gave me a price well below the advertised market price. Really a rugged, stiff sidewall, deep tread tire.

I replaced them with the ones mentioned above because I was expecting a soft sidewall out of that tire and it was just the opposite, even at 4 ply, and they (after the fact I discovered) advertised the fact that the sidewall was built to withstand farm use treatment. The R1s do give me a softer ride, with softer sidewalls even though they are 6 ply and the rest of that is being 8" wide rather than 12" increases the #/ sq. in. footprint which rides smoother.

The factory R4 Titian's on the rear of my 2001 tractor are starting to look a bit dry rotted in the side walls, but still have good tread, grab well and have great cut resistance. Ill likely replace them with the same here soon. (due to age)

The turfs that came on my 4310 were Titan. It's a 2004 and I imagine the tires were original. Fronts were worn out and one of the rears had cracks all the way around. I replaced them with Galaxys. The rear Galaxy tires I bought came mounted on Titan rims.

No complaints on my Titan tires on my 2010 LS.
NOTE: The fronts of all tractors with 4 WD and a front end loader will wear much faster than the rear tires regardless of the type or brand of tire..
