Hello everyone. It's been a while since last post. Use to be HRS. New computer, lots of time passed, cleaned out cluttered drawers and tossed passwords etc by mistake. So now I'm HRSx2. Anyway, I've got a question for those who might have or have operated a backhoe on a TC30. If so, what brand and how did you like it. I'll be doing mainly cleanup of smallish stumps and bushes. Also need to move a little dirt. I talked with a dealer and he wants 12K to install loader and backhoe on machine. Great little tractor. Turning it into a TLB should make it quite a little beast. But then the dealer started trying to sale me on a TC40 TLB or a Kubota L39. If I trade then the out of pocket jumps from 12k to between 20-22 for the others. The L39 is one heck of a machine. Would love to have it but not sure I'd really ever effectively use such a comercial grade machine for my "playing". Probably true for the TC40 also. But before I spend the 12k on the TC30, I wanted to hear from others who have used it. So, what did you do and how did you like its performance. Thanks.

Off the top of my head; I say 12K is on the high side to get a loader and a backhoe. I have awoods 7500 on my TC 29. It works fine.

I have a NH 1920 which was the bigger brother to the TC30. It has the 758C backhoe on it. The extra reach allows you to reposition the machine less when trenching and allows you to place the spoils farther out. Parttimer bought a TC30 with the 7308 loader and 758C backhoe on it back in 2006. No matter which backhoe you get make sure it is a subframe mount. Hope this helps, Bill C

Well, I spent a few hours the other day putting my TC40 TLB through the paces building a creek crossing. I've only had the 758C for a few months and I now understand the weaknesses of a "BH as attachment". If you really want a TLB tractor for doing lots of TLB-like work, I would seriously look at the L39 or L48 or something in that range. I really thought my TC40 TLB would do the job, but as I've added more acreage and have to do more work, I'm really starting to see the weakness. Overtime, I'll probably trade up to a more dedicated machine like the L39/48 or JD 110.

Don't get me wrong, it did the job. It's just that if you have the room for a true TLB device, you might look at a dedicated unit.

Just my two cents.

I agree. Compact tractors that have the loader and backhoe attachments are not TLBs. Compact TLBs maybe. :)

I have had my TC-30 for a little while now. It has the 758c backho on a subframe on it. This is the biggest that you can put on. Some said it was too big. I have had a blast with it so far. The back ho is stronger than I thought it was. As long as you keep things in perspective. I have dug a 4 foot deep pond circular about 20 feet in diameter. I have dug a frost wall for an addittion to a house 5' deep in some spots and 52 feet long. Re-graded and installed 200 feet of driveway. I have dug 12 8' deep test holes for water tables. Pushed several smaller trees down (loader) dug out a few stumps. Spread out a bunch of loam.

Two friends have borrowed it to do small jobs around their houses.

All this and I only have 92 hours on it.

I am planning on using it to install my septic and foundation in the spring summer of this year. I am confident it will do the work.

As for the "real" TLB I tested a bunch. They tend to be more compact and faster (better hydralics). Some say stronger I am guessing they are indicating they are a more commercial grade. They were more money as well.

I wanted versatility over speed. I actually have my three point hitch arms still attached even with the back-ho installed, yes there is enough room. But if I want I can drop the ho and use the three point hitch or mid point pto under for a belly mower.

Good Luck with your descision.

Unless they changed things while I wasn't looking, MMM mounts and Backhoe mounts are incompatible.

Rickb, Oh boy not another thing to figure out. I have not purchased a mid mount mower deck "yet". But it was on the list. There is only the two brackets that hang down up near the front of the tracktor that the backho sub frame is attached to. Are they in the way? I guess I have to go look up where it all connects. I am sure I could just remove these? Learning never stops Thanks for the heads up.

There's quite a bit of 'stuff' that gets installed underneath the tractor for a MMM. Rods and springs towards the back of the tractor, attachment points in the middle. I had one and sold it a few years ago which required me to remove all these things. A lot more than I'd want to be removing and installing in order to use the back hoe.

I have a tc30 with the 757 new holland brand hoe on it. It is a sub frame mount. I have been extremely surprised at what it can do for what it is. I have dug out a few good sized stumps. It does take a while, and quite a bit of re-positioning of the tractor. I am happy with it, but would buy a small to mid sized excavator, if I had the money. I say this, just because of the advantages of an excavator, in reach, break out force, ALOT less re-positioning, being able to have a 360 degree rotation, to put spoils, load truck or trailer, while in the same spot, etc. etc. I won't be giving up the tc30 and hoe any time soon, but I do have a shortness of patience when it comes to getting a job done; that's why I dream of the excavator.
